Dear Mom and Dad,

Today we got to sing one of my very favorite songs. We sang, “I Am a Child of God” (Children’s Songbook, p. 2). Will you sing it with me? This song helps me remember that Heavenly Father planned for us to come to earth to get bodies. He wants us to learn to do many things with our bodies and wants us to use our bodies in the right ways so we can become like him. I can show you many things I can do with my hands, feet, mouth, and eyes. I can do many things that I could not do when I was a baby. We sang the baby song to the tune of “Once I was a Snowman” . I like to think of all the ways I am getting bigger and taller.

Once I was a baby, baby, baby, Once I was a baby, small, small, small.

Now I’m growing bigger, bigger, bigger, Now I’m growing bigger, tall, tall, tall!

I am growing bigger each day and will learn to do many more things. I am thankful to Heavenly Father that we have bodies that can do so many things.

Sometimes we are asked to do things that are difficult. Then I can ask you, my teacher or others to help me do difficult things. I can pray for help when I have to do something that is hard. Jesus Christ can also help me when things are hard to do.

My teacher told us a story from the scriptures. (1 Samuel 17). The Philistines had declared war on Israel. A giant Philistine soldier, named Goliath challenged the Israelite army to send out a man to fight him. Goliath said that if any Israelite soldier could fight him and win then the Philistines would not be at war with them but would become their servants. No Israelites were brave enough to stand against Goliath except David, a young shepherd. Armed with his faith in the Lord and with his sling, David went to fight the giant. Goliath made fun of the boy when he saw him, but David was not afraid. He trusted in the Lord’s help. David put a stone in his sling, swung it, and let go. The stone sank into Goliath’s forehead and he fell to the ground. David ran forward, picked up Goliath’s sword, and cut off his head. Jesus helped David do a very difficult thing.

I am thankful to Heavenly Father for my body and the many things it can do. Will you help me remember to ask Heavenly Father to help me use my body to do good things?

Thank you for bringing me to church today!

Love,

Your Sunbeam
