City of Nashwauk 6-28-11 Mayor Hendricks called the meeting to order at 4:30 in the council chambers
Members Present: Hendricks, Marinaro, Heyblom, Fragnito, Gangl Members Absent: none
*Motion by Marinaro, seconded by Heyblom to accept the minutes of the June 14, 2011 council meeting Ayes all present—motion carried
*Motion by Gangl, seconded by Marinaro to approve all bills signed and file the claims report as official record Ayes all present—motion carried
Special Items: Mayor Bill King discussed O’Brien reservoir, and the City of Nashwauk had previously approved to help out with the life guards, but the city of Keewatin is not hiring them for this year. King suggested to the council to set up a committee of councilors, and members of the community to see how to promote the O’Brien beach area. Set up a meeting at the end of summer to discuss. The council was very receptive to the idea. Heyblom added that Nashwauk residents use the beach as much as Keewatin and is very excited to help out in any way we can. Hendricks suggested to discuss at the work session.
*Motion by Fragnito, seconded by Gangl to approve the communications as read Ayes all present—motion carried
*Motion by Marinaro, seconded by Heyblom to approve the consent agenda as follows: 1) Approve the following concession for the 4th of July- NKG Wrestling, Schusters, Concessions, Original Gyros, Mr. Goodies, Schweiby’s Concessions 2) Approve the Mayor to attend the round table discussion in Eveleth on June 30th with State Representative Cravack--plus mileage Ayes all—motion carried
*Motion Heyblom, seconded by Marinaro to approve revised lease agreement changes for the Veterans park Ayes all present—motion carried
Hendricks discussed the Essar lease agreements, they don’t affect any other agreements and recommended by our legal department to approve
*Motion by Marinaro, seconded by Fragnito to approve consent agreement between the city, NPUC, and Essar Steel MN and allow the Mayor and Clerk to sign Ayes all present—motion carried Dimich received information from the League regarding competitive bidding, there are two points to consider, if it’s a governmental unit or if we are members of the state cooperative bid process. With that said we are in compliance and do not have to advertise for bids for the new fire truck.
Discuss payment plan for the fire truck. No penalty for early payment. It was agreed to put $50,000 down from the fire truck fund. Gangl wasn’t sure if putting $100,000 was a good idea, he agrees with the $50,000. More discussion could be done at works session.
*Motion by Heyblom, seconded by Gangl to approve a $50,000 down payment for the fire truck and do a 10year financing package and revisit at work session Ayes all present—motion carried
*Motion by Heyblom, seconded by Fragnito to transfer $50,000 from the fire truck fund to the general fund to make the down payment Ayes all present—motion carried
Set work session for 12:30 on July 6th get info to clerk by Friday for the agenda
Hendricks discussed the property purchase and there will be $460,000 in the development fund and the land could be paid off. Discuss more at the work session
