ESOL TUTOR JOB DESCRIPTION
The ESOL Tutor will be an integral part of a dynamic staff team working at a thriving educational charity in North Kensington. The Adult Learning Programme encourages and supports adults to develop their language and basic skills and promotes inclusion into the wider community. The ESOL Tutor will teach ESOL embedded with I.T. and Numeracy at Entry Level 1 on Monday (daytime) from 11.30am – 2pm, Thursday (daytime) from 11.30am – 1pm, Sunday (daytime) from 10am -12 and ESOL Entry Level 3 (PET) on Thursday evenings, from 7-9pm. The ESOL Tutor will provide practical learning support, motivational and confidence building activities for students and some advice and guidance and pastoral care. He/she will be required to be enthusiastic, creative, energetic, flexible and able to exercise initiative. He/She must support the aims of the charity. This is a post ideal for an experienced Adult Learning Tutor in the Skills for Life Sector. The ability to embed IT and Numeracy into ESOL delivery is essential.

STARTING DATE: September 2011
ESSENTIAL: QUALIFICATIONS - a degree or equivalent, a recognised ESOL subject specialist qualification at a level 5 (previous 4), plus DTLLS or PGCE in ESOL.
EXPERIENCE – a minimum of two years in delivering ESOL at various levels. Please note that candidates without the relevant qualifications and experience will not be considered. RATE OF PAY: £7,904 per annum, divided into twelve equal monthly instalments, depending on qualifications and experience
HOURS OF WORK: approximately 8 hours per week contact time. In addition, the employee will be required to produce lesson plans, SOW, IAs, ILPs, suitable materials, monitor attendance and retention and participate in regular staff meetings. Occasional extra hours will be required for substitution and CPD.

To work as a member of the Adult Learning Team, taking a full part in the organisation, planning and delivery of the ESOL classes To take responsibility for Health and Safety, carrying out the required administration (including monitoring and RARPA) and ensuring we run a safe and stimulating programme To be able to plan independently in compliance with the ESOL curriculum and to work creatively whilst exercising initiative and contributing own materials To attend regular training and continuous professional development courses To update and maintain Adult Learning displays, publicity and resources To develop basic & appealing study packs/worksheets To be familiar with and understand the necessary regulations and legal requirements, including Safeguarding Adults, Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety and Working with Vulnerable Groups To undertake any task that may be requested from time to time that may be consistent with the nature and scope of this post
PERSON SPECIFICATION This person must: Be energetic, enthusiastic and committed to developing a thriving Community Education Programme Be highly self motivated, able to prioritise tasks and work well as part of a team Be able to carry out effective planning, monitoring and evaluation in accordance with RARPA Experience in delivering Cambridge ESOL and EFL exams desirable Be able to interact well with and motivate effectively adult learners Be highly computer literate and conversant with Word, Excel etc Be creative and have a passion for teaching, whilst complying with new OFSTED guidelines and trends Be able to plan, organise and deliver activities for adult learners taking into account their pastoral and academic needs Be able to acquire and apply knowledge of Skills for Life procedures to help adult learners achieve their individual and group goals Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the skills to write reports, plan lessons and workshops and prepare educational materials Have ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ teaching observation records Be able to discern appropriate content for the classes Have the ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines Have some experience working with disadvantaged adult learners Be able to demonstrate initiative and flexibility Be able to demonstrate a positive, ‘We Can’ ethos Be ambitious to learn about the voluntary sector, project delivery and project development
