2017-2018 ANNE DARLING Parent Responsibilities (ADES)

1. Good Routines: The weeks before school begins, ease your children into a routine by putting them to bed at 8:30 P.M. Elementary school students need 10 to 12 hours of sleep. See principal for support. 2. Important Dates: The attached SJUSD Calendar includes all holidays and vacations. Many families post this on their refrigerators. The first of school is August 16 and the first early release day is August 22; students will be released at 12:58 every Tuesday. Please see attached ADES Bell Schedule. 3. Class Lists with teacher names and classroom numbers will be posted at 3:30 PM, August 11, on the window to the right of the front gate. You will be contacted via a letter if your child is to be moved to another homeroom classroom after the start of the school year. District policy requires combination classes if there is a significant change in enrollment. 4. ADES Uniform Policy: The uniform policy allows all students to feel proud and ready for school: Navy blue solid pants/ knee length shorts/skirt/jumper with a white, navy, or grey collared shirt. No jeans, leggings, or athletic attire are permitted and clean clothes are a must. Target has good prices on uniforms. All students will be asked to wear black closed-toe shoes or black tennis shoes, and navy blue, grey, or black sweaters or jackets. White socks are recommended. 5. Urgent Communication: We need your updated cell and home phone numbers and address— all year long. You will receive on going telephone messages from the school. If you do not receive the ongoing phone messages or the monthly newsletters, please notify the office. Should an emergency occur and we are unable to contact you, authorities may be reached. If you move, you are required to go to the Enrollment Center to update information. 6. Breakfast/ Lunch: If your child is new to the District you must complete a Free/Reduced Lunch (FRL) application: new students must bring bag lunches to school until paperwork is submitted to the Office and the district has approved the form. If your child is returning to the District and qualified for Free/Reduced lunch program last year, you will have 2 weeks to complete the FRL form and turn it into the office. Your child will receive lunch from the cafeteria during this time, until the deadline has been reached. In order to ensure that all students are on time to class, no breakfast will be served after 7:45, but a second breakfast will be offered at recess each day. Students who owe lunch money will be provided with a fruit and milk. 7. Important Documents: Students may be insured through Myers, Stevens & Toohey Company. In case of an emergency or student accident, the District is not liable. Your child will receive this information the first month of school. Send the completed form directly to the company. You may call the office for more information. If you do not wish for your child to be filmed or photographed for our school web site and/or publicity events, please complete the Media page of the District Student Handbook and return to the office. 8. Safety: Preferred drop-off for students each morning and pick-up after school is in front of the school in our valet line drop off zone. For student safety we ask that you cross your children within cross walks; please do not enter from either exit. The entrance to the school is the second driveway on N. 33rd St. Students must be picked up on time on a daily basis. If a student is tardy to school, the parent must come in with the student to sign the student in. Our late bell rings promptly at 7:55 everyday and instruction begins. Parents whose children have frequent tardies or absences may be SARBed.
