1 The Five Biggest Lies Bush Told Us About Iraq Compiled by John J. Fitzgerald (After Scheer, et al.)
1. Al Qaeda had ties to Iraq. False. Saddam Hussein had no use for the religious fanatics that made up Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda’s links were and are to Afghanistan and Saudi Arabia.
2. Iraq had chemical and biological weapons and was preparing to use them. False. The U.S. and European nations gave Iraq the chemical and biological weapons that Iraq used against Iran in the 1980’s. In a confrontation with the United States they had no value, so he destroyed them.
3. Iraq had nuclear weapons. False. He may have dreamed of them, but he never obtained any.
4. The War will be a “Cakewalk.” False. The U.S. disbanded the Iraqi army and the Baathist Party. They were the “glue” that kept Iraq together. More American soldiers have been killed, wounded and maimed since Bush proclaimed, “Mission Accomplished” in 2003 than before this announcement.
5. Iraq will become a “democratic model” for the Middle East. False. The CIA now reports that Iraq is in the midst of a civil war. It seems to be breaking up into three distinct regions. (Cf. The End of Iraq by Peter W. Galbraith.)
