Wage Rate: Per collective bargaining scale, currently $21.50 p/h, 40 hours p/wk

Position Description and Qualifications:
A copy of principal duties; skills & knowledge required, etc. and the basic qualifications for the position are attached hereto and made a part of this notice.
Review of Candidates:
All letters of interest, resumes and applications submitted for this position will be reviewed. Candidates determined most suitable to the position will be invited for an interview.
The following factors shall be utilized in determining the selection to fill this position:
Education, training and certification directly related to the duties of the position; Experience in related work; Work history; Ability to do the job.
All of the above factors shall carry equal weight in the selection process.
In the event that two or more applicants are finalists, after all relevant procedures have been followed and are considered equal in accordance with the forgoing factors, then seniority, as defined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement, shall be the deciding factor.
Physical Examination: The applicant selected shall be required to permit a medical examination, at the expense of the CHA, which will indicate the successful candidate’s physical condition prior to the initial date of employment. Current employees may be exempted from this requirement.
Criminal History Systems Review: The applicant selected shall provide a release on a form provided by the CHA, permitting a review of any record held in the name of the applicant by the Massachusetts Criminal History Systems Board.

2 Position Description: MAINTENANCE MECHANIC
General Statement: Must be skilled in or shall be a holder of a license in at least one of the following trades: electrical, plumbing, carpentry.
Supervision: Works under the supervision of Maintenance Operations Manager or Working Foreman, who assign work and check for quality. Must be able to diagnose and remedy problems with minimal supervision.
Example of Duties:
Electrical: 1. Install electrical systems and/or make repairs to electrical equipment, appliances, heating systems, ranges and refrigerators, etc. in accordance with the normal practices of the electric trade.
Plumbing: 2. Install, service, assemble and repair a wide variety of plumbing systems, such as above and below grade piping and equipment installations for oil, water, gas and steam in accordance with the normal practices of the plumbing trade.
Carpentry: 3. Construct and repair cabinets, countertops, shelving, doors, windows, screens, etc. using power or hand woodworking tools, complete finish woodwork and rough carpentry in accordance with the normal practices of the carpentry trade.
1. Ability to paint when required.
2. Must be familiar with and adhere to local and state building codes and laws and insurance regulations. Must acquire proper building permits at CHA expense when applicable
3. Any other duties assigned by the Maintenance Operations Manager or Working Foremen when required, or any other work the employee is capable of performing.
Qualifications:
1. Working knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, sketches and the ability to work from oral and written instructions.
3. Ability to make estimates of time and material requirements in planning of work.
4. Ability to instruct and direct the work of Mechanic & Aide and or Maintenance Aides.
5. Ability to climb and to work from scaffolding and/or ladders some distance from the ground or floors.
6. Must be skilled in and shall hold a license in at least one of the major building trades.
3 7. Considerable knowledge of the tools, materials, methods and standard practices used in a respective building trade or trades.
8. Ability to work for the residents of the CHA and to perform a public service which will reflect a credit on the Chicopee Housing Authority.
