Course description: This course is an expansion of vocabulary, grammatical structure and writing skills learned in Spanish 1 with continued emphasis on oral proficiency. The following are units of study that will be covered: U-1: My Life, U-2: My Healthy Routine, and U-3: My Voyage.

Class Rules: 1-Be on time and ready to work with required materials. 2-Sit in assigned seat and display your Spanish name tag. 3-Enter and exit the classroom quietly (teacher dismisses class, not the bell). 4-Be respectful and cooperative with one another. 5-Follow all school policies.

Consequences: 1st Offense – Warning, conference w/student, 2nd Offense – Break detention, contact parents 3rd Offense – 30 minutes after school detention (white ticket) 4th Offense – 1 hour after school detention (white ticket) Severe Discipline Occurrences: Referral to Assistant Principal or Principal. Parental contact.

Grading: Each homework, quiz, test, skit, project and class participation has a point value. At the end of the marking period, the students’ grade is his/her total point earned divided by the total possible. The District grading scale is used: A (90-100), B (80-89), C (70-79), D (60-69), F (below 60). The final exam is cumulative and will count 20% of the student’s grade.

Extra Help: Help will be provided on the needed basis and will be schedule after school. If you are having difficulty, see me before or after class.

Tips For Success SPANISH-2 CLASSROOM POLICY

Academic Honesty: Honesty is an essential value of our academic community and is a vital part of a successful and healthy student life. 1-Students caught cheating on any assignment (homework, quizzes, tests, etc.) will earn a 0 for that work and the work cannot be made up. 2-If a student is copying work for my class or another class, both students’ work and will be taken and not returned. 3-If a student is completing work for another class, the work will be taken and not returned to that student. Students may ask the teacher to work on assignments for another class after all Spanish-I work has been completed.

Tests/Quizzes: 1-Once a quiz or test has been given there will be no talking. If a student does not understand a question or needs a pencil, etc. that should be brought to my attention. 2-There is no sharing of erasers, pens or pencils during a quiz or test.

Bathroom/Locker Passes: Students are given a pass at the beginning of the year. This pass allows for two bathroom or locker passes each quarter. If a student loses this pass or needs more than two a quarter, the student is required to serve break detention in my room for the whole break.

Retesting: 1-Students are allowed to retest if they make below a 60. 2-The student must request the retest. 3-The student will receive no more than 60 on the retest (no matter how high above a 60 they score). 4-The student has only one opportunity to retest the test.

Student Assessment: Students will be evaluated through homework, quizzes, tests, projects, and language skills through the three types of Integrated Performance Assessments:

Interpretative: assignments based on reading and listening comprehension skills. Interpersonal: assignments based on the spoken target language and conversational skills. Presentational: cumulative assignments of spoken or written nature. CLASSROOM ROUTINE A series of commands will be employed within the classroom to foster further communication in the target language.

Entering: greet the teacher in Spanish as you enter the classroom.

Exiting class: say a Spanish farewell to the teacher as you leave the classroom, and after the teacher, not the bell, dismisses class. Getting teacher’s attention: raise your hand to signal the teacher.

Getting student’s attention: the on/off light switch will be used to signal students to stop what they are doing at the moment. Pencil sharpening: get the teacher’s attention and say the password in order to sharpen your pencil. Using the trash can: get the teacher’s attention and say the password in order to throw away trash. Use appropriately or at the end of class to avoid interruptions. Bathroom / Locker: get the teacher’s attention and say the password in order to go to the bathroom or locker. Using courtesy: use the appropriate phrase according to the scenario. Example: when receiving something, when requesting something, when welcoming something. Calling someone over: say the appropriate phrase to get someone to come to you.

Asking for help: say the appropriate phrase in order to get help.

Finding out how to say something: get the teacher’s attention and say appropriate the question. Finding out what something means: get the teacher’s attention and say the appropriate question.

CLASSROOM PROCEDURE Homework: as soon as you enter the class, place your homework on your desk.

Tardy: the first tardy is warning, 2nd tardy is break detention, 3rd tardy is after school detention. Students can present a note signed by a teacher or office staff to excuse the tardy. Absences: you are responsible for getting any missing assignments upon your return. Make-up work: quizzes and test will be made up after school in a timely manner.

Food: no chewing gum, drinking or eating in class. Dispose of such items before class. Sleeping: heads down on the desk or sleeping in class will not be tolerated.

Bathroom: 4 passes will be given to use in emergency cases, one for each 9 weeks.
