By Car to Borrowdale via Penrith & Keswick

Take the M6 to Penrith, leave the motorway at junction 40, then take the A66 to Keswick. In Keswick follow signs through Keswick for the B5289 (direction Borrowdale). Stay on the B5289 alongside Derwent Water, drive past a turning to Grange on your right and through the village of Rosthwaite. For the Glaramara Centre, continue past the Stonethwaite & YHA turnings for another mile. There is a sign to the center on your right just before the turning to Seathwaite. If you reach Seatoller you’ve gone too far.

By Train to Penrith

The nearest train station for Borrowdale is Penrith on the West Coast Line.  From London the journey takes approx 3.30hr.  From Birmingham: The journey takes about 2.40hr

By bus

If coming by bus you will need to get a bus to Keswick from Penrith and then a bus from Keswick to Borrowdale. For up to date information check the Traveline website: http://jplanner.travelinenortheast.info/

Penrith to Keswick Regular bus service (X5 or X4) runs from Penrith station hourly to Keswick bus station and takes about 40 mins. Keswick Bus Station is little more than a bus stop next to Booths supermarket! There may be extra buses in the summer months as well. There is a tearoom in the park opposite the station, and again at Booths Supermarket facing the bus stop should you have a wait.

Keswick to Borrowdale Regular bus service From Keswick bus station to Borrowdale, there is an hourly bus service (X79).The bus takes you down beside Derwent Water and past Grange village. Then comes the prettiest section before Borrowdale opens out and you reach Rosthwaite village. After Rosthwaite, stay on the bus for a further mile or so, and ask the driver to stop at the Glaramara Centre. The Glaramara Centre turning on the right just before the Seathwaite turning. The Centre is 2-3 mins walk up the drive.

By taxi from Keswick to Borrowdale If you arrive in Keswick after the last Borrowdale bus or at the point when they become less frequent, try Davies Taxis for a good taxi rate from Keswick to Glaramara. Tel 017687 72676
