Extra Credit Options

All extra credit work must be submitted at the end of grading period with an up-to-date log (available online). All work must be submitted in writing and is subject to teacher approval. Students are eligible to turn in up to 200 pts (maximum) up to 5% per semester. Don't miss out! Here are some extra credit work options that are available to you:

1. Press Release Write a press release or (newsworthy) article on something related to the ROP Marketing or Business Ownership class, the Business Academy or DECA. This must be approved by the teacher prior to submitting the article to the media. 25 pts with teacher approval

2. Glencoe Practice Activities Visit the textbook student center at glencoe.com and do the chapter activities. After completing the activity, screen shot the finished work and paste it into your digital work folder assignment submission & record on your timesheet alternative weekly log in your folder. Must complete 10 questions (showing an 80% or better) for credit. 10 pts each Marketing Essentials - Select a chapter and then click on “game center” for crossword puzzles and fill in the blanks. http://glencoe.mheducation.com/sites/007895312x/student_view0/index.html

Entrepreneurship: Building a Business – Select a chapter and then chose from chapter practice tests or games. http://glencoe.mheducation.com/sites/0078897661/student_view0/index.html

3. DECA Judge Recruit a DECA judge for Nor Cal, State or International Career Development Conference. More info can be found on the CA DECA website at http://californiadeca.org/judge/index.php This will include professional correspondence (invitation, follow-up details, and thank you note) 50 points

4. Web Research Search out a website related to the unit we are studying in class, or any site relevant to Business, Marketing or DECA. Write a brief summary (minimum ½ page) of what you learned from your visit. Include the web address of the site you visited. 20 pts

5. Educational Program Choose a half hour program on television or radio that is related to Business, Marketing or DECA. Write a 1-2 paragraph (minimum ½ page) summary of what you learned. Be sure to include the name of the show, when it is on and what channel it appeared. 20 pts

6. DECA Prep Visit the DECA website and review the list of available competitive events at: http://www.deca.org/competitions/2/. Select an area that you might like to compete in; print the guidelines for this event. Next, create an action plan of things you might be able to do to help you prepare in this area. See your teacher for suggestions. Print evidence of the practice work you do (ie, practice test, role play prep notes, draft sections of a written project). 10 pts for guidelines/action plan, 20 pts for each additional task completed in preparation for the event. See teacher for more information. 7. Entrepreneur Interview Interview an entrepreneur or business owner. Submit the questions asked, write an overview of what you learned from the experience (½ page minimum) and write a professional thank you letter. 25 pts 8. Professional Conference/Seminar Attend a professional seminar, workshop or conference related to Business or Marketing. Submit an overview of your experience and what you learned. 25 pts minimum (varies based on the time invested in this learning opportunity – see your teacher).

9. Guest Speaker Recruit a Marketing/Business professional to be a guest speaker in our classes. This will include professional correspondence (invitation, follow-up details, and thank you note). 25 pts

10. Design Your Own Any opportunity that you believe will expand your knowledge in Business/Marketing can be considered. Discuss options with your teacher.
