School Play: at This Time, We Do Not Have a Director for Our School Play! If You Know Anyone

Friday Facts: Have a safe and happy Halloween. Remember to set your clocks back and to cheer for the Mets!

School Play: At this time, we do not have a director for our school play! If you know anyone that might be interested in working with us, please have her/him give me a call ASAP. Thanks.

CMS Squash Club- Last Call: CMS squash will start the week of November 30th and run for 10 weeks. The team will be practicing twice per week (Mon/Wed) at the New York Sports Club in Stamford. Any level of squash is welcomed, and for those players who want some competition, there will be the opportunity to participate in the FairWest league Jamborees and Nationals. Please contact Cristina Fikre at [email protected] or Susan Burnett ([email protected]) by Nov.5th if your son or daughter would like to participate and for more information regarding the schedule and the fees. This is not a CMS sponsored club.

PE News  The PE department has started a group at [email protected]. The teachers are looking for thoughts, suggestions and positive comments in regards to PE. This is not a gripe box, but rather a site for constructive feedback to help drive instruction and create a positive climate for all.  Basketball tryouts begin on Monday Nov. 30 and run through Friday Dec 4. All participants must turn in to the nurse a sports medical form and a signed permission slip prior to tryouts.  As there are both a girls and a boys team, there will be an early and a late practice, which will be posted along with game times, in mid-November. If a team has a late practice, players will report to study hall at 2:35 and, at 3:50, head to the gym to prepare for practice. They may not leave the building unless they have a note from home stating the reason and return time.  Students staying after school for intramural or athletic activities must leave their belongings in their hall lockers until the activity ends. They may then head back to their lockers to pack up and go home. There should be nothing left in the gym hallways as these items cannot be monitored or supervised by the staff running the activities.  During games, the boy's locker room will be used to change clothing only. Laptops must be left in the hallway lockers.  During games, the girl's locker room may be used to change and to lock things up.  In the event that a team is traveling to another school, all belongings must be packed up and taken on the bus, brought into the game site and brought back with the student on the bus.

School Wide Trip: To celebrate the season, we will take a trip to Chelsea Piers on December 18. We will be the only school there, and all activities will open to us. I will have students organized in groups, and they will rotate through activities of their choice. This includes ice-skating, swimming, trampoline, the Adventure Center, foam pits, ropes, bars, tennis, squash swimming and the Splash Zone. Students who do not want to participate in physical activities play games in the game room or play Ping-Pong. The permission slip will be available to download on our site, and a hardcopy will also be distributed to students next week. The cost of the trip is $35, and financial assistance is available through guidance.

Congratulations: Marie Sokolova (Entry #3) has won the yearbook-cover contest and her work will be on the front cover. Also, congratulations to Ashley Freeman (Entry #1), whose entry will be the back cover.
