HL7 Table 0200 - Name Type Value Description Comment Level A Assigned A name assigned to a person. Reasons some organizations assign 1 alternate names may include not knowing the person's name, or to maintain anonymity. Some, but not necessarily all, of the name types that people call "alias" may fit into this category. B Birth name A name that a person had shortly after being born. However, this is not a semantically accurate match to identifying one of the multiple names supplied by the patient as preferred name.

Justification: Healthcare providers in Australia send patient clinical documents (for example, discharge summary, referral, electronic prescription, dispense records, shared health summaries, etc) to the national national EHR repository. Patient may be known to the national national EHR repository by multiple names. One of these names is required to be identified as „preferred name“. It is one of the parameters used in disambiguition of patient identity and is one of the clinical safety requirements.
