ERC MULTI-STAKEHOLDER FORUM PICKS UP PACE

The Ethnic Relations Commission Multi-Stakeholder Forum meetings are continuing across the country.

This weekend, five conferences are scheduled for Saturday. The first will be at the Siriki Primary School, Essequibo at 14:00 hours. Two other conferences are scheduled for Essequibo on Saturday. These will be at the Anna Regina Multilateral School at 15:30 hours and at C.V. Nunes Primary School at 15:00 hours.

Conferences will also be held on Saturday at the Grove Primary school and Diamond Community Centre on the East Bank of Demerara at 17:00 hours.

On Sunday, conferences will be held in Essequibo at the Sparta Primary School and at the Hampton Court Primary School at 15:00 hours. On the East Coast of Demerara at the Biaboo Primary School at 13:00 hours, Virginia Primary School at 14:00 hours, Helena Primary School, Mahaicony Secondary School and Ann’s Grove Primary all starting at 15:00 hours.

On the West Coast of Berbice on Sunday, conferences will be at the No. 8 Primary School and at Hopetown Primary School at 15:00 hours. Also on Sunday conferences will be at the Bartica Gardens at 14:00 hours, at the Wisroc Nursery School in Linden at 17:00 hours and at the Inter-active Centre, Santa Artak, Demerara River at 12 noon.

Over 140 community level conferences are planned. The views and suggestions coming out of these conferences will be taken to the Regional level where communities will be represented by residents who would have been chosen at the community-level conference. The Multi-Stakeholder Forum culminates with a National Conversation scheduled for May 28th at which political leaders, the Government and civil society are expected to participate.

Already, some 34 conferences have been held in communities across the country.
