Cub Scout Committee / Leader Meeting Notes

Cub Scout Committee / Leader Meeting Notes Date: September 23, 2014 Time: 7:00 pm-8:30 pm Attendees: Riz Batman, Stephanie Kashnier, Kim Ridley, Jesse Ridley, J.D. Kennard, Richard Damron, Brian Osborn, George Hurley, Donna Hall, Adrienne Yourek, Thomas Lejeune, Patrick Brock Everyone attending introduced themselves. Riz stated that all meetings will hopefully only last 1 hour. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of every month and open to all parents. Membership: The two nights we held Sign up for Scouts were very successful. We signed up 33 boys. We have a few more boys who would also like to sign up, we are looking for a total of around 35 new boys. In addition 3 parents also signed up. We need more leaders. Fundraising: The Golf tournament was a success. Although not all the money is in yet it looks like we will have made a profit of$3400.00. J.D. would like to thank all that helped and attended the event. That being said we need more people to help plan the next one. One person cannot do it alone. It is very important that parents sign up to help with events. A signup sheet will be made available at the November and December Pack meetings. The money we made goes towards starting a Pack Campership Program for Summer Camp. In addition to the money we made, we collected two tubs of food which was donated to the Food Pantry and also collected 60+ toys for Toys for Tots. A donation of youth Golf Clubs was donated to Garrison Lakes Golf Club by our Pack to help build their Youth Golf Program. Zombie Walk: Due to the interest by the public we will again be having a Zombie Walk. It will be held tentatively on November 1, 2014. Jesse Ridley will be contacting the town of Smyrna to see if that date is available and if we can obtain a permit. Since that does not leave us much time to plan we really need some help. As soon as we get the ok on the date, a memo will be sent to all parents informing them of a meeting date to plan and organize the event. Although we did not have a lot of participants last year, it was still a great deal of fun. Participants dressed as Zombies and walked through downtown Smyrna. We had a MC and awards were given out at the end of the event for several different categories. The charge will be $5.00 and a toy for the Toys for Tots program. Popcorn Sales: We made over $900.00 selling popcorn at the Golf tournament and at Willey Farms on September 14th. Please don’t forget to keep selling popcorn. If you know of any locations where we could sell please let Stephanie know. Boys who participate at these events earn money for their scout account. Riz will be contacting Brooks Keen to see if the Duck Creek Historical Society will purchase the scouts handbooks. Advancement: All Leaders please be sure to inform Craig of what badges or awards you need for your boys. Activities: Pack trailer- 2 tires will be purchased by Jesse for the trailer before the first campout on Oct 3, 2014. The propane tanks will also be filled up. Our first campout will be on Oct 3 at Blackbird State Forrest. We are penciled in for Tybout camping area but we are trying to get Cherry Blossom. We will inform you as soon as which location we are able to get. Cost is $10.00 a person. No meals will be provided for Friday, everyone will need to eat before coming out or bring something with you. Saturday we will provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner and on Sunday we will provide breakfast. October 24-26: Cub Family Weekend at Akridge Scout Reservation in Wyoming De. More details will follow.
