TO: 2014 Candidates and Staff “The ORGANIZATION”

RE: Preseason Bulletin 14-03

PHYSICAL EXAM – A Reminder As part of the 2014 contract, you are required to have a physical exam before you can be assigned a regular season game.

You will find the 2014 physical form for your physician to sign and for you to subsequently submit contained on the web site (www.theorgtrainingsite.com) under the ‘Add’l Info’ tab. The 2014 form will be the second item listed within this tab.

The deadline for submission of your signed physical form is August 1 st .

Summer Study Sessions The summer study meetings are now in full swing as we are now only a month away from our mandatory annual clinic at Delta College in Stockton on July 26th.

The goal and structure of the meetings is to provide our staff and candidates a continuous opportunity to “talk football” – through the plays and training video developed for the meeting. In all instances, we want to highlight game situations related to mechanics, philosophies and judgment which will lead to the greatest degree of consistency on a regular basis.

Dan and I want to take a moment to recognize and thank the following gentlemen who have been an incredible assist in the development of our summer program.

Jim McGeough – he assisted once again in reviewing the 2014 Supplemental Guidelines as well as developing the summer study tests.

Again the intent of the tests are to challenge you to recognize play or game situations, then discuss the related mechanics, philosophies embedded in the Supplemental Guidelines, as well as the correct rule application. I think you will agree that Jim has created 4 excellent tests which should challenge each of you!

Jeff Dahle – has done a superb job coordinating the implementation of the upgrades to HUDL as well as working with HUDL to streamline the process of creating the training tapes using symbols and comments embedded in the videos in a successful attempt to improve the effectiveness of the video presentation

We will continue to use both internal material from our member games on HUDL, as well as sourcing material from “other outside” groups such as the CFO National website up or from the CFO West. There are still a few hiccups to resolve, but the feedback from the meetings so far have been overwhelmingly positive related to the upgraded capabilities we subscribed to.

Rick Medeiros – has agreed once again to coordinate the Arbiter system, including the updating of all new officials, loading of the master schedule, and most importantly the role of the emergency assigner over the weekends during the 2014 season. His role as emergency assigner and the process/procedures will be reviewed during the clinic and in subsequent bulletins prior to the season.

Without their efforts as well as the leadership from our regional representatives, the success and growth of the program would not have achieved the level it has today! Sideline Control – Evolving Issue Although there are no official rule or editorial changes distributed to date, a point of emphasis in the new 2014 Mechanics Manual entitled “Coaches Sideline Management and Control” as well as a training video released last week indicates there will be minimal if any tolerance for coaches or players on the sideline (not active participants during the down) to be located in the six foot area between the sideline and coaches box (“in the white”).

Effectively the rule is renewing the ‘sideline warning’ for traffic in this area, escalating into a 15 yard penalty by the fourth and subsequent incidents,

There will be a great deal of vetting of this position and the material presented on the aforementioned training video over the next few weeks, and hopefully by the time our CFO West national clinic in Dallas the week after the 4th of July has concluded there will be clear guidelines and consensus for how we are expected to administer the change and situation.

Be aware of this issue, but there is still discussions required before the final procedure emerges. Stay tuned, but don’t get too distracted at this point speculating about the final details as they are still being determined.

Clinic Information After the 4th holiday, a detailed agenda and topics for the annual clinic will be released. We will be back in the Forum lecture halls, and plan on the registration starting at 7:00AM, with the clinic beginning at 7:45AM. Please start planning your travel departures to insure you’re on time arrival. As in the past we project the clinic ending at 2:45PM.
