Ninth grade Literature and Grammar Syllabus
9th grade English is an introduction to literature class, so the students are introduced to the basics of reading and analyzing different texts and media; non fiction, fiction, poetry, drama, as well as video, Internet sites and artwork. The students will build on these skills as they progress to study World Literature (10th grade), American Literature (11th grade) and British Literature (12th grade). Students will also learn literary element terms, how to recognize them in different works and they will write their own texts in response to what we read in class. The students learn to recognize and correct basic grammatical errors.
In order to pass 9th grade English, students must:
Have a passing grade in the class Have a Level 3 or 4 on the English End of Course Have a complete writing folder with all items of the high school products list o 5 hours of service learning on a social issue is required as well
In addition to summer reading, and the required class reading, students are required to bring a book to class every day to read during independent reading. The book is their choice. Too often students forget that reading is supposed to be fun.
