Alignment Plans for 2010 – 2011

Note: The month of September for Iowa Core will be discussions on the quality of the Iowa Core Implementation Plans. This process is currently being created by the Iowa Department of Education. The process will be conducted within the AEA boundaries. Districts will be notified in August of the process and dates.

Iowa Core Outcomes 4 and 6 are required to be addressed within the next 2 years. Below are the specific targets as outlined in the Self-Study and Implementation Handbook (pg. 4).

1. Complete an initial alignment of local content with Core Curriculum Essential Concepts and Skills in Literacy, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and 21st Century Skills (Civic Literacy, Health Literacy, Financial Literacy, Technology Literacy, and Employability Skills) and steps to address any gaps.  Due July 1, 2012 for grades 9-12  Due 2013-2014 for grades K-8

2. Complete initial analysis of professional development needs in the areas of instruction and assessment and integrate into the District Professional Development Plans (following CSIP procedures).  Due July 1, 2012 for grades 9-12  Due 2013-2014 for grades K-8

It is the intent of Keystone to assist districts with the merging of these 2 requirements during the next 2 years along with the use of Collaborative Learning Teams (PLCs, per Outcome 6.a.1).

Keystone has established 4 half-day Alignment trainings across 2010-2011 for small groups of districts. It is expected that each district will appoint a team to be trained; that team might be the original Leadership Team plus at least one teacher from each building. The team, plus the Keystone District Iowa Core Lead, will plan and deliver alignment to the remainder of the staff. The half-days will be in October, November, January, and May. Below are the agendas for those days.
