Research project investigating developmental and transition issues experienced by community college students, the impact of real and perceived barriers to success, and counseling interventions and advocacy (manuscript under development).

 The Effects of College Orientation Type on Student Success. Research project investigating how and to what extent two college student orientations of different lengths and content affect student success (manuscript under development).

 Academically and ethnically diverse first-year student’s adaptation to college: The effects of the First-Year Experience Seminar. Paper focusing of the effects of a FYE course and students’ enrollment status in developmental courses and their impact on academic, social, personal adjustment to college (manuscript under development to be submitted to the Journal of The First- Year Experience & Students in Transition).

 Comprehensive Evaluation of the Santa Monica College Early Alert Program. Spearheading a comprehensive qualitative and quantitative research study to assess the early alert program=s effectiveness in identifying and assisting students in academic difficulty. Recommendations will be used to revamp existing system and/or create a new one.

 The Impact of Community College Student Services Programs on Student Learning Outcomes. Research project assessing the impact of student services on non-cognitive student learning outcomes (self-development) of students enrolled in randomly selected classes.

 Consequential Validity of English, ESL, Math, and Chemistry Assessment Instruments. Research study designed to determine the consequential validity of ACCUPLACER and COMPASS tests and their effectiveness in placing students across English, ESL, and Math courses.

 Effects of Type and Level of Career Indecision on Community College Student Retention and Persistence. Longitudinal study of community college students assessing how level and type of career indecision (using the Career Factors Inventory) impacts retention, persistence, and success of randomly selected first-time freshman students. The relationship of career indecision to attrition, retention, and other quantitative variables are also being assessed.

 First-Year Students' Adaptation to College: The Effect of the First-Year Experience Course. Pre- post research project being conducted at California State University, Northridge assessing the impact of the freshman year experience, mentoring by graduate students, developmental education, and student living arrangements and their effect on college adaptationCacademic, social, personal, and institutional attachment. (manuscript under development).

 Development and measurement of a Mattering Questionnaire. Paper seeking to further explain the construct of mattering and how students’ college experiences are affected by the degree they feel they matter or are marginalized. Focus is on community college probationary students and university freshmen. Subsequent links to retention, persistence, and success will be studied.

 College Student Services Contributions to Student Learning Outcomes. Research project and paper exploring the degree to which college student services, counseling in particular, contribute to non-cognitive learning outcomes (self-development, self management). CV Esau Tovar 8 of 9
