St. Mary’s Primary School www.stmarysstewartstown.com Parents’ Newsletter www.stmarysstewartstown.com OCTOBER 2013 Issue 48 ‘Tús maith, leath na hoibre’ or A good start is half the job As the first month of the new school year vanishes and we approach October, we really did have to stop and reflect about our pupils and how they really do deserve praise and credit for the way they have made such a great start to the new school year. Each and every one of them have settled incredibly well and approached their learning with such enthusiasm! All staff connected with our school have commented about just how eager and conscientious the children are. Not a day passes without someone - a visitor, a parent, even delivery drivers, passing comment about the children’s behaviour, their good manners and their positivity towards school. We are grateful for the excellent children we have here in Stewartstown and they in turn deserve great praise.

Beginning of School Year Mass Mass will be celebrated for the beginning of the school year on Thursday 3rd October at 10am. Pupils from P4-P7 will remain for confessions following mass. All parents, grandparents and friends of St. Mary’s are very welcome.

FLU VACCINATION: P6 pupils Thank you for your very quick Drumming return for the flu vaccine forms, Ear plugs at the ready..... Mrs Hamill’s class will be taking part in an Isobel our school nurse was really 8 week drumming project with the SELB. They will experience impressed! The vaccine will be listening to and playing a range of drums. They will showcase their given on Friday 11th October to talents towards the end of the programme so watch out for the all P6 pupils whose parents have invite! consented.

Good habits Start the year off well by signing your child’s School Planner regularly . It’s Birthdays Celebrations in a good way of letting your child’s teacher know that this work has been October completed. ********************** School Sponsored Walk … ALL WELCOME!!!! ************** It’s off to Drumcairn Forest for our sponsored walk on Monday 28 th October where (weather permitting) we can experience the beautiful changes in Autumn. As a special treat the school kitchen staff will bring our dinner to us and we will all enjoy eating al fresco! Sponsor sheets will be issued shortly Administration of Medication Policy DATES FOR THE OCTOBER DIARY Date Event 1st Traditional music lessons A school policy on the safe and best use of administration of rd medication in school is available from the school secretary. 3 Beginning of school year mass Please get in touch with Patricia Kells if you need to update us rd about any long term medication that your son or daughter is on. 3 Orchestra & individual tuition - violin 11th Drumming commences P3/4 11th Flu Vaccine P6 21st Autumn Watch – Miss Halloween Howlers Quinn’s class in Parkanaur We can’t believe it is coming around to that time of year again 28th Sponsored Walk! but believe it or not, on Tuesday 29th October we will have 29th Fancy Dress Parade @ our annual fancy dress parade starting at 9.45 am. 9:45am The ladies in the school kitchen will be busy stewing apples for 30th Parent Teacher Meetings the delicious apple tart and crumble to be served at the coffee st morning. All proceeds raised go towards Action Cancer. 31 & School closed Halloween: 1st Mid term break school closes 11 am
