Key skills Getting on with people, being part of a team and hard worker. I recently sailed a Hallberg-Rassy 48 from Genoa in Italy to Alacante in Spain with my friend, it gave me an idea of being on watch and what being at sea is like. I have also lived on a boat for the last 8 months. Interests I enjoy sailing, fishing, football, socialising, traveling and music. I want to go to sea with the Merchant Navy because I can see it is an amazing and life changing career opportunity. I love the sea and have been around boats my whole life. I feel at home on the water and live on a boat at the moment. I played football at a very high level when I was in my teens and it taught me how to work well within a tight nit team. I am at the perfect period in my life to move on to the next stage. I love sailing and working with boats and as much as I enjoy rigging boats I see this training as enabling my journey on further rather than my career path. To be accepted on the cadet training scheme is all I have wanted and joining the merchant navy is my ideal chosen career. The financial side of it is huge as well. If I did get selected I would be wanting to work towards becoming a captain as quickly as possible, for I am ambitious and determined and I know fully capable of achieving my goal. I did apply two years ago and although got very close was unsuccessful. This time I am two years older and have grown a lot as a person. I have lived in Essex working in a boatyard away from home, I have been to sea and sailed from Italy to Spain, delivering a yacht, and now live on my own boat. I would like to think I am now ready for such an exciting and rewarding challenge and that I have much more to give to the position,, as well as a more mature outlook to absorb more and succeed, in a career that I think I am suited to and would be proud to be part of.
