Please call or email Jane Spalding at 262-692-3943 or [email protected] Port Triangle Garden Jean and Heidi report: The Triangle Garden in downtown Port is Jean Schanen complete for this year. After the initial design, reworking, planting, Heidi Janous mulching and regular summer maintenance, we now have a lovely newly renovated garden in one of the downtown focal points of Port. Last week we did final clean up and maintenance. We added spring alliums to enhance the rest of the well-timed garden design. Tendick Park Susie and her team continue to maintain plantings at Tendick Park, and Susie Granzow they continue weeding the front area. A new gate and fencing around the vegetable garden seems to be keeping critters out. U.S.S. Liberty Memorial Public Sue reports: The garden at the U.S.S. Liberty Memorial Library has Library (Grafton) done very well this summer. The plentiful rainfall was helpful, along Sue Spatz with the faithful volunteers! We've done fall cleanup and planted new Joan Suelflow varieties of bulbs for next year. We're looking forward to spring, and we always welcome anyone who would like to help! Washington County Community Mary reports on WCCG: We are just about finished with another stellar Gardens year at the WCCG, despite our battle with the invasive field horsetail Mary Reilly-Kliss weed. Approximately 140 gardeners tended 78 plots and harvested OVER 9,265 pounds of food which compares to a market value of over $18,528. Gardeners gave back to the program by providing over 200 hours of their time, with a value of $22/hour, or over $4,000. These numbers help to justify our existence and validate the important role which community gardens play in providing food for families AND local food pantries. Webster Middle School Stan reports on the Webster Garden Team: The first October meeting Stan Suring involved the set up of a large display of fall decorations including bales Marion Kanack of straw, corn stalks, squash and pumpkins. The display was located outside main entrance doors to the school for students and staff to enjoy. The second monthly meeting involves a bus trip for team members to travel to Madison to take part in the state wide Wisconsin Science Festival. This includes a visit to the Discovery Expo as well as a tour of the D.C. Smith Greenhouses.

The demolition of old fencing around the Webster Garden has been completed. All supplies for new fencing are being delivered in late OCT, including the rental of a gas powered posthole digger. Weather permitting, work days are scheduled for this Saturday and Sunday from 9:00 AM to noon each day. Adult Volunteers are badly needed for both days; if enough show up, we can reduce rental cost of the post hole digger by almost $200 dollars. If you are able to help out, a sign-up sheet will be on the back table at OCT 22 OMG meeting, or contact Stan Suring. [email protected] ( phone 262-377-3063 )
