Time to Celebrate Little Wonder Celebrates 95 Years of Proven Product Performance

ORLANDO, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2017) — Little Wonder, an industry leader in debris management, grounds maintenance and asphalt and paving site preparation equipment, marks its 95th year in business. The company, one of the oldest and most reputable brands in the landscaping industry, will celebrate the milestone Feb. 27-March 1 during The Rental Show in Orlando, Florida.

During the first day of the show, Feb. 27, Little Wonder will host a 95th birthday celebration with refreshments, gifts and discounts at booth 3662.

“Spending time with our partners and customers at The Rental Show has been a longstanding tradition,” said Bruno Quanquin, Little Wonder vice president of sales and marketing. “We’ve introduced many innovations over the years there, and it’s only fitting that we invite the show attendees and fellow exhibitors to celebrate with us.”

The world’s first hedge trimmer, a hand-cranked machine developed in the United Kingdom in 1922, was named “Little Wonder.” The simple but ingenious design for the time was the first of many work-saving products that would become synonymous with Little Wonder. Oddly enough, that first product found a strong customer base in the food industry; pasta makers trusted the unit’s razor-sharp, hand-finished blades to slice delicate fresh pasta into strips. In 1935, the brand immigrated to America via an acquisition by Pennsylvania-based, Schiller-Pfeiffer, a predecessor to Schiller Grounds Care Inc., the company that manufactures Little Wonder today.

“The rest is an American success story,” Quanquin said. “Over the years, Little Wonder introduced some of the most trusted products in the outdoor power equipment industry. Our customers’ confidence in always receiving long-lasting products with innovative designs from us is what’s led to us marking such a significant birthdate.”

Little Wonder produced the world’s first electric-powered hedge trimmer in 1940, followed by the world’s first gasoline-powered unit in 1955. The company also developed the world’s first “handheld” tiller and coined the terms “roto” and “mini” tiller in the 1970s. In 1997, at its 75th year in business, Little Wonder revolutionized debris management by introducing a redesigned line of walk-behind leaf blowers. In consultation with independent airflow-design engineers, Little Wonder created the new product line that surpassed the performance of all other walk-behind blowers on the market. The innovative design received a patent in 1998.

Since 1922, Little Wonder products have been used to tend to the grounds of some of the most iconic places in the world, including the White House, Disneyland, the Eiffel Tower, the U.S. Open and the summer Olympic village.

Today, products featuring the familiar red and white color scheme of Little Wonder can be seen on landscapers’ trailers and rental yards around the world. The company’s product lines include blowers, edgers and bed shapers, leaf and debris vacuums, truck loaders, and, of course, hedge trimmers.
