Goal of the Music Studios

MUSIC STUDIO

9/7/16-Updated Goal of the Music Studios The Legacy Christian Academy Music Studios offer private music lessons in piano, voice and instrumental music. As private teachers, our goal is to teach each child to honor and glorify God through the talents He has given them, and to use those talents to serve others through music that praises and glorifies Him. The purpose of the music studios to provide excellent music instruction taught by qualified instructors who believe in the truth of Christ. It is to be a place where students can learn and develop their musical talents in a safe environment, and provide a service to the families of LCA and the surrounding Frisco community.

Registration and Fees Enrollment is always open for private music lessons. All private lessons pay a non-refundable annual registration fee of $50.00, payable to their private teacher, which is due at the time of enrollment. This fee covers the maintenance and piano tunings, recital fees, and other miscellaneous items.

Private lesson fees are $100.00 per month, which covers a total of 33 lessons during a school year. Lesson fees are paid directly to the private music instructor. Lessons missed during school holidays, early releases, doctor and dental appointments, etc., may not be deducted from the $100.00 monthly tuition fee.

Payment Policy Annual fees for voice, piano, and instrumental private lessons are $1000.00 per school year. Lesson payments must be set up before lessons begin in August. The first payment of $250.00 will cover the $50.00 registration fee and August through September lessons; making the second payment due on or before October 1.

Students taking private lessons can choose from two payment options. 1. Pay in full for each semester or for the complete year. (August-December-$500.00) (January-May-$500.00) (August-May $1000.00) 2. Pre Dated monthly installments by check. Parents can pre-date checks for the 1st day of each month. The checks will be deposited no later than the 5th day of each month by the private instructor.

Please note, there are no discounts for siblings on private music instruction. If a student wishes to discontinue his/her music instruction, a 30-day written notice will be required. The parent will be financially responsible for the remaining lessons for that semester. The registration fee is non-refundable.

Enrollment Registration and policy forms for enrollment are available online through the school website. Please submit the registration forms, emergency information and non-refundable registration fee of $50.00, payable to private teacher. Please fill out all forms entirely. Once the completed registration form, signed policy agreement, and $50.00 registration fee have been submitted the student will be notified by the private lesson teacher to set up payment method and confirm a lesson time.

Attendance Beginning students need to be committed to lessons for at least one semester. It takes daily work to be able to play or sing correctly. Books must be brought to the lesson just as students are responsible for bringing their schoolbooks to class; that is the only way we can progress in a timely manner.

Make-up Lessons Make up lessons for excused absences from the first semester will take place on December 12-16, 2016. Make up lessons for excused absences during the second semester will take place during the week of May 15-19 2017. Excused absences include student illness, school field trips (with a 24 hour notice given by the parent to the private teacher), an extreme emergency and death in the family. Unexcused absences will not be refunded or made up by the teacher. If the instructor should cancel a lesson a make-up lesson will be scheduled in a timely manner.

MUSIC STUDIO

Recitals, Performances, and Music Festivals - (Piano and Voice Students Only) The Music Studios of Legacy Christian Academy is dedicated to seeing each student glorify the Lord with his/her talents. For this reason, we will host two recitals during the year to serve as a testimony of their hard work, and diligence. We consider it vital that each student participate in the recital, therefore, it is a requirement as part of a student’s overall musical experience to participate in these events. (One of the performances may not necessarily be formal and may include a recital at a nursing home, after school or lunch performances at school or a community performance at one of the local malls.)

We also offer the opportunity to perform in Music Festivals throughout the school year – these events are not required. Those entered to play before a judge, will receive a certificate and depending upon the grade given can receive ribbons, medals, and even trophies after earning points by entering multiple times. The judges give constructive, positive pointers as to how each child can improve their playing.

Calendar The private lessons for the first semester will begin on Monday, August 29, 2016 and will conclude on Friday, December 9, 2016. The second semester will begin on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 and will conclude on Friday, May 19, 2017.

School Closings The Legacy Christian Academy Music Suites follows the inclement weather policy of the LCA handbook. Please listen to local radio and TV broadcasts for information concerning closings. When inclement weather develops in the afternoon, the LCA Music Suites reserve the right to cancel lessons for the remainder of the day.

Expectations of Student Practice Students are expected to follow their teachers practice suggestions. Parents of young children will need to sit with their child for a while as they practice; and help them learn the fundamentals and encourage them as they learn. Practice times need to be consistent – a daily time when the child knows it is practice time. Our lives are very busy, but practicing even for 15 or 20 minutes four or five times a week will gradually increase skill and confidence. With more practice time, comfort and ability will increase more rapidly. Regular15-20 minute practice sessions will make music study much more fun and rewarding.

Home Instrument Every student is required to have a suitable instrument at home. A suitable instrument is either a well-tuned acoustic piano or a digital piano with 88 weighted keys. It is possible to start a student on a small keyboard, but if lessons are progressing well, the instructor will require that a different instrument be purchased or rented. A student cannot be successful long term if he/she does not have a good piano to practice on at home.

Preferred Teacher Students requesting a specific teacher should make the request known on the registration form. Students will remain with the assigned instructor throughout the school year unless there is a major concern.

Grievance Procedures Please discuss with your instructor any difficulties that your student might be experiencing with the lessons. If a problem cannot be resolved with the instructor, or you feel that the instructor is not meeting the needs of the students, please contact the Fine Arts Director immediately. If possible, put your concerns in writing.

Summer Music Lessons Summer lessons are highly suggested for all students. Students who do not sign up for summer lessons but wish to return in the fall can complete the registration form and pay the annual $50.00 registration fee by June 1 to hold their spot for the fall semester; otherwise the student will be accepted only if a space is available.

Summer lessons begin the week after school is dismissed and ends the week prior to the beginning of school starting. Vacation time, summer camps, etc., may be worked out with your private teacher. MUSIC STUDIO
