HOW ARE THE LEAGUES CONSTRUCTED? We take great pride in providing the best possible experience for all of our participants. Players are evaluated by age, experience, ability, skill, and recommendation by the player’s previous Manager. Birmingham Little League has five Divisions: Majors: 4-5 years of experience, typically 11 & 12 year olds Association: 3 years of experience, typically 10 year olds Minors: 2 years of experience, typically 9 year olds. You must receive an invitation by the league to tryout as an 8 year old for the Minor Division Coach Pitch: 6, 7 or 8 year olds or All 6 year olds Must have at least one year experience in T-Ball Tee Ball: Entry Level in the Little League 4, 5 & 6 year olds (must be in Pre-School)

ARE AGE GROUPS THE BEST WAY TO DETERMINE ABILITY? No. Since every player who signs up plays and we mean plays, sometimes certain adjustments within divisions will be made. We can’t guarantee that all players will play with their school friends. We believe in providing a meaningful experience for everyone who registers. As an organization, we make it a point to never have a player participate in a division where their age or grade is more than one year than typical for that league.

WHEN ARE THE EVALUATIONS? Player evaluations are MANDATORY for League officials will be evaluating all all players above Coach Pitch level & will be Divisions on SUNDAY March 6 or held at the following location: SUNDAY, March 13 as follows: Derby Middle School Minor Division 12:00 – 2:00 pm 1300 Derby Road, Birmingham Association Div. 2:00 – 3:30 pm located on Derby at Eton Road Major Division 3:30 – 5:00 pm between Big Beaver & Maple Coach Pitch & Tee Ball Divisions will be placed on Teams by the League. Congratulations to our 2015 Minor Division regular season & tournament champs; the Tigers coached by Dan Cornwell, to the Association regular season champs the Blue Jays coached by Rick Kelley, the Tournament Champs Tigers coached by Wayne Wudyka, and Major Division Reds coached by Mark Simpson, the Tournament Champions Nationals coached by Blair Gough. It was a great season

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED: Last year we had 43 teams which translates into 260 volunteers who coach, count pitches, keep score, rake the fields and run concessions. YIKES!!! Please don’t be afraid to step up to the plate (Baseball pun intended). If you would like to get involved, just make yourself available to any of our directors or give us a call to offer suggestions or ideas. We are, as always an organization that has no boundaries when it comes to participating.

Congratulations to our Little League Tournament Teams. Since we are organized through Little League Baseball, Inc., we are eligible to participate in a season ending tournament. The tournaments of Little League have grown year by year until today they have become the criteria by which youth baseball is judged. We are allowed to enter teams in; a 9/10 year old; 10/11 year old; and 11/12 year old divisions. Most of you are familiar with the nationally televised 11/12 year old championship game in August, which takes place in Williamsport, PA. In 2015, our 11 year old team won the District Championships and continued on to the State Tournament finishing 3rd overall. All of our teams competed and represented our league admirably and a huge “shout out” to our coaches who volunteered their time and efforts into the success of our Tournament Teams. Over the past 14 years, Birmingham Little League has captured 26 District crowns in all age groups and a State Championship in 2008. Congratulations to all those young men who had a tremendous post season.

This year the end of our baseball season coincides with the end of the school year. Practice can begin Sunday March 26 (weather permitting) with the full season starting Monday April 25. Some additional important dates to remember are the All Star Game on Saturday May 21 complete with Skills Competition, and the League Championship Tournament for Majors, Association, Minors and Coach Pitch beginning Sunday June 13 and running through the following weekend. The Championship games will be scheduled for Saturday, June 18. Lastly our 5th Annual Birmingham Little League Tigers game is scheduled for mid-July, stay tuned for more details we will have a parade on the field and all Championship teams will be announced. Should be great fun for all.
