REQUIRED PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT: CSA approved safety glasses and or face-shield, CSA approved steel-toed shoes/boots, dust mask when sanding, hearing protection.

GENERAL NOTES: No lighters, matches or cell phones are allowed in the shop area. Long necklaces and or bracelets should be removed. Long hair should be tied back; strings hanging from pullovers/sweaters should be removed.

JOB SAFETY ANALYSIS:

Step Description Hazard Controls 1 Fastening stock to faceplate; ----Using a compass, mark a circle 1) Personal injury from thrown 1) Use only stock with a flat smooth surface the size of the faceplate and another slightly larger than the-- stock due to improper mounting. and free of cracks or flaws. -- diameter of the turning. Drill pilot holes if using a hard wood or the screws will twist off. -- 2 Fastening stock between centers; ----Square stock to 1/4 inch 1) Personal injury from thrown 1) Examine stock for cracks or flaws and test more than largest--diameter. -- Draw diagonals on both ends to stock due to improper mounting. all glue joints. locate centers. --Make shallow saw cuts on the diagonals on one end and drill or punch a small hole in the center of the other. --Drive the live center into the saw cuts with wooden mallet and place oil into the hole for the dead center. --Tighten stock between centers using the tailstock hand wheel and then turn it back 1/4 turn to prevent excess friction. 3 Positioning tool rest; ----Position tool rest level with the centers 1) Cut and or jammed fingers. --2) 1) Ensure correct position of tool rest with and approximately 1/8th of an inch from the turning. Rotate Eye injury enough clearance. --2) Wear approved safety the stock by hand to ensure clearance. ---- glasses or face shield.
