We strive to make the most of every opportunity, partner with passion, and say “Yes!” whenever we can. At the same time, we are committed to looking ahead and planning for the future. We are able to dream and create new programs and curriculum, set and achieve BIG goals, and be the first to embrace cutting edge innovations because we put ourselves in the position to be able to do so. Chance favors the prepared mind! We accomplish all of this through thoughtful and strategic planning. Dr. Van Hook will explain why we plan, the impact our planning has at COC, and what YOU can do to engage in meaningful and effective planning for your department.

 LEAPers will work together with their Solution Team to write a business plan for their project and develop a 15-minute presentation for the May 20th LEAP session.

Homework

 Meet with your Solution Team members and mentor and begin work on your business plan.  Decide on a team name and slogan for your Solution Team. Please email your team name to Leslie Carr prior to the next LEAP session.  Read the bios of the Community College CEO panelists when they are sent to you and come prepared with 1 – 2 questions to ask them.

Learning Outcomes: By the end of this session, participants will:

 Explore the concept of “the bigger picture” and its relevance to planning

 Discuss the on going process of planning, including the importance of data and the influence of internal and external factors
