Role Resource Centre Support Volunteer (Motiv8 Project)

Role summary Providing help and guidance to clients accessing the Motiv8 service across Greater Manchester. There are a few roles open, one for each location

Suggested Involvement One day per week minimum suggested for around 6 months

Location Available for various locations around Greater Manchester: Bury, Bolton, Oldham, Rochdale, Salford, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford *Please indicate preferred location in your application

Supervised by Motiv8 IRC Officer and Volunteer Coordinator

We support thousands of clients a year and are committed to delivering more of what we do to the people who need us most. As an IRC Volunteer, you will be an invaluable part of our team acting as a point of support and guidance for clients who need help accessing a range of online services and completing forms associated with their housing and/or benefits.

Main Tasks can include  Supporting the work of the Motiv8 IRC Officer  Supporting clients to use Choice Based Lettings systems, find accommodation  Assisting clients with filling in forms  Supporting clients to use the Shelter Website and finding information  Providing information and leaflets where applicable  ‘Signposting’ people to other services if we are unable to help  Updating and maintaining our agencies database

Skills and Abilities Required  Experience of working with the public  Ability to use computers and programs to a good standard and confident to show/support others  Effective communication skills and the ability to understand the needs of our clients  Ability to organise your own work, manage your time and work on your own initiative  Interest in social welfare law e.g. housing; welfare benefits; debt; community care  Willingness to follow Shelter’s policies, including volunteering, health & safety, equality & diversity & confidentiality

Induction, Learning & Development To enable you take part in this opportunity Shelter will  Provide a volunteer pack including a Handbook and all Policies and Procedures  Provide e-learning: Equality & Diversity, Health and Safety, Data Protection, Case Management Systems  Provide relevant training, coaching and shadowing to enable you to fulfil your role
