●Title ‘Comparative study of Welfare States from the Life Satisfaction and Gender Perspective Approach’

●Abstruct; In Japan, the ISSP data showed that total life satisfaction was very high but the work satisfaction was very low, instead of gender. Why life satisfactions are so high in Japan? I had a question that the GEM(Gender Empowerment Measure) of Japan is lowest among OECD countries, but Japanese women and men’s life satisfactions are so high. Why Japanese women’s life satisfactions are so high though Welfare state had not enough to correct gender inequality in Japan? I am interested in whether Welfare states affect the life satisfaction’s level or not. I would like to study what kind of people attains high life satisfaction and how much the differentials of life satisfactions there are inside the groups for example gender, age or marital status and so on. Then, I contrast the life satisfactions and welfare state typology as comparative study. The data used is the ISSP Gender and Changing Family Survey 2002 for 38 countries, including Japan and Taiwan as East Asia countries. The data includes three life satisfaction valuables: the total life satisfaction, the work satisfaction and the family life satisfaction. The ISSP 2002 data includes Japan and Taiwan as East Asia Countries. This study will be focusing Japan and comparing with OECD countries, but I will show you comparative study with Taiwan and would like to discuss about the common or different features as East Asia Welfare states Finally, I would like to develop and suggest the life satisfaction index as one of evaluation or frameworks for comparative Welfare states study.
