Celebrating the Asian-American Heritage Month 2013 Asian Film Festival April 17, 18, and 19, 2013 5:30 pm, CVA 151 Free and Open to Public

In celebration of the Asian-American Heritage Month, AsiaConnect, a faculty/staff affinity group established to promote Asian cultures and interests, proudly presents the 2013 Asian Film Festival. This free and open event will feature three theatrically acclaimed movies from Taiwan, Iran, and India. Please join us in celebrating Asian cultures through these movies. ------

Wednesday, April 17, 2013 Wedding Banquet 喜宴 (1993, Taiwan) Directed by Ang Lee This Ang Lee-directed movie is about a gay Taiwanese immigrant man’s wedding plan. It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and for Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film. It won the Golden Space Needle of the Seattle International Film Festival and the Golden Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Thursday, April 18, 2013 (Iran ,1997) بچههای آسمان Children of Heaven Directed by Majid Majidi This film is about a brother and a sister and their adventures over a lost pair of shoes. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and won awards at the Fajr Film Festival, the World Film Festival, the Newport International Film Festival, the Warsaw International Film Festival, and the Singapore International Film Festival. Friday, April 19, 2013 Monsoon Wedding (2001, India) Directed by Mira Nair This internationally co-produced film about a traditional Punjabi wedding won the Golden Lion award and received a Golden Globe Award nomination. A musical based on the film is scheduled to premiere on Broadway in April of 2014. This event is made possible by the generous support of School of Theatre and Dance, Department of Languages, Literatures, & Cultures, Honors Program, MBA Program, and Crossroads Project.
