Minutes of the Executive Committee Meeting August 28, 2012

Present: Y. Cooper; Hon. P. Dembe; A. Haller; G. Heller; Hon. A. Lazarus; Dean Lennon; B. McCormick; Hon. S. Moss; Hon. A. Rizzo; Hon. T. Sarmina; M. Seigle; S. Sigman; P. Weiner; E. Weitz; C. Whitney o Platinum Status Judge Dembe announced that the Temple Inn had been awarded Platinum status for the 2011-2012 Inn Year and thanked Paul Weiner and Clark Whitney for their work in our submissions to National. o Approve Minutes from Last Meeting After a motion, the minutes from the July 24, 2012 Executive Committee Meeting were approved. o Membership It was reported that the Membership list is complete, the invites have been sent out, disinvites have been sent out, and that we have a list of student members. The list of teams will be distributed. o Letterhead The new letterhead is complete. o Update on Cuba Trip The Cuba trip was fully subscribed within four (4) days. The next step is the questionnaires for the visas that will go out in the next week or so. o Opening Meeting A discussion was held regarding the final details for the Opening Meeting. Tina Salcone will coordinate and administer the meeting, including preparing name tags, signs, information packets, etc. Beatty O’Donnell has reserved the Duane Morris cafeteria for the event and will handle the food. Judge Moss, Don Davis, and Hank Delacato will conduct the New Members’ Orientation. Meredith, perhaps with Judge Rufe, will conduct the Team Leader Orientation. The information packet will include the following: bylaws, meeting schedule, team list, venue list, instructions on how to logon to the Inn website. o Budget Brian McCormick reported on the budget: There is currently approximately $7,141 in the Operating Account. We have received dues from 22 Members so far and

1 deposited $9,000, which will bring the account to over $16,000. Dues in the amount of $7,425 are due to National in January. In addition, we need to reimburse Paul Weiner for the Closing Dinner from the Operating Account. Brian has given a check to Yvette for CLE costs. There is approximately $2,500 in the October event account. We still need to reimburse Judge Rufe and the amounts for the photo books. Scott will get an estimate for the cost to edit the Debate video further. A decision on what to do with any surplus was tabled until all the outstanding expenses have been paid. There is $4,600 in the Scholarship Account. o October Event Judge Lazarus has sent the contracts to Brian. We will be getting 100 tickets. Other Inns will be charged $45 per person. The producer and players will be available after the performance. The cocktail hour can be held at Colonial Dames beforehand for $600. The Villanova Inn is not interested in participating. Judge Lazarus will follow up with the other Inns. o Pegasus Scholar Program The Pegasus Scholars will be in DC from October 8th through November 2nd. They are looking to be hosted by an Inn for a day, which would include underwriting their train fare and lunch. A discussion was held regarding potential activities for the Scholars other than the October Event since they are already committed October 8th through October 11th. Anthony reported that Rachel Gallegos is applying to be a Pegasus scholar. She will need letters of recommendation. Judge Moss, Judge Rizzo and perhaps Paul volunteered to prepare letters. Anthony advised that it is helpful to have references from people connected to the Inn movement and also from Inns other than ours. Judge Rizzo offered to circulate Rachel’s resume to assist in obtaining additional support for her. o Sir John Baker Anthony Haller reported that Sir John Baker is willing to do a talk on the history of the Inns of Court. His preference would be to have his talk be at the beginning or end of the week. He will be in the U.S. until early December, departing around December 3rd. A discussion was held regarding Sir John Baker making his presentation at the November meeting on November 14th. Anthony is currently set for trial in Tennesee on that date, but if he is unable to attend, he offered to prepare a video-taped introduction. The entire presentation will also be videotaped for future use. Anthony will check with Sir John Baker to confirm that he can be available that night and report back to the Committee. o Supreme Court Reception in October A reception for Circle of Excellence winners will be held at the Supreme Court on October 19th and 20th. Judge Dembe and Paul will be unable to attend. Anthony, Judge Moss, and Scott Sigman plan to attend. Meredith Seigle will check her availability. If she is unable to attend, Brian will plan to attend.

2 o Inn Leadership Conference Meredith reported that there is not an Inn Leadership Conference for our circuit this year; the next Conference will be in 2013. There will be a 20th Anniversary Party and a few Temple Inn representatives will be invited. Judge Moss reported that the National Conference is in May in New Orleans and that Anthony will participate in a panel. o American Inns Leadership Conference Meredith will look into the American Inns Leadership Conference and whether there will be a regional conference. Meredith and Judge Dembe will plan to attend. In addition, the Celebration of Excellence event with the Chief Judge hosting will be held October 28, 2012. There is also a National conference in May in New Orleans. Judge Moss will report further about the National conference after the October meeting of the National Inn’s Board. o Membership Directory Andy Miller will lead the charge on preparing an Inn membership directory. o CLE Yvette Cooper reported that the Inn’s CLE provider status is currently being audited and she is in the process of gathering some additional information that has been requested. Clark will provide program reports and materials to Yvette. o Ed Edelstein Committee Judge Moss reported that the Ed Edelstein Committee had not yet met, but that she would schedule a meeting. A proposal was made to schedule the Ed Edelstein event for next October so as to give the Committee adequate time to prepare something worthy of Ed. The Committee consists of: Don Davis, Alan Epstein, Judge Moss, Judge Lazarus, Judge Rizzo, Bobbi Pichini, Melissa Lennon, and Yvette Cooper. This Committee will become the October 2013 team. o Membership Survey There is a simple sample survey on the National Inn website. Meredith and Scott will review it to determine whether it is sufficient for our purposes and whether there are any additional questions we would like to add. o Grays Inn Prints The Grays Inn prints have been sent to the past Inn presidents who did not receive them in person at the Closing Dinner. A motion was made and approved to order six (6) additional prints at the price of $70 each in order to have them available for the future. Scott will make the order. o Saltz Scholarship The Saltz Scholarship Committee will include Larry Bendesky, Drew Duffy, and Melissa Lennon. SMBB has sponsored the scholarship for 5 years at $2,500. A discussion was held regarding fundraising and the possibility of creating an

3 endowment, while keeping in mind that we will also need to raise money for the Ed Edelstein Event. o New Venue Committee The New Venue Committee has made a list of interesting potential locations for monthly meetings. A discussion was held regarding the possibility of holding this year’s Closing Dinner at the Barnes. Scott offered to look into it. o Student Employment Search Dean Lennon is gathering resumes and write-ups regarding the student members’ interests to send to team leaders. It was proposed that we use the Mentoring Team, led by Hank Delacato and Sue Verbonitz hold a Networking Workshop for students and less-senior Inn members. o Website Update Scott and Greg Heller provided an update on the website update. The Inn contact list will be added to the website in the password-protected section, along with the marking that the list is to be used for Inn purposes only and never for solicitations. We will also add information regarding the Cuba trip and our Inn’s Platinum recognition. Obtaining access for Emeritus members is in process; National is currently updating its own website. Greg offered to circulate information on how to log in. Greg will update the CMS and Clark will assist with deadlines. Anthony will talk to Greg about the CMS system. o PR Judge Dembe raised the idea of an article in the Bencher, Legal, Philadelphia Lawyer, or Bar Reporter regarding our Platinum status and the history the Inn and our awards. Scott volunteered to work on the article along with Hank Delacato and Eric Weitz. Judge Rizzo suggested getting assistance from Lisa Chapin at National as well. o Teams A few changes were made to the monthly team lists. Mark Cedrone will be on the March team; Anthony will be on the November team; Judge Neifield will not be a team leader; Michael Gaier will be a team leader for the April team; Sam Pace will be added to the February team. o Special Teams The following persons were added to the following special teams: Closing Dinner: Paul, Meredith, Scott, and Brian. Day of Service / Ronald McDonald House: Judge Moss, Yvette, Michelle Coburn, Liz Mattioni, Michael Schaffer Pro Bono / Wills for Heroes: Dan McKenna, Greg Heller Mentoring: Chris Boyd, Dean Lennon, Judge Rufe “ Cookbook”/ Checklists: Judge Dembe, Meredith, Scott for web-related items; Judge Rufe will review
