Dear Players and Parents

Academy Newsletter No 6

Monday 17th August 2015

Dear Players and Parents,

Week 6 now complete of our pre season programme with games against Wrexham, Tranmere Rovers and international success for our under 14s.

Weekly Round up of Academy Fixtures

A tremendous seven days saw games against Wrexham AFC, Tranmere Rovers, Deeside Dragons and an International Tournament for our Under 14s.

Last weeks academy fixtures began with games against Wrexham Academy away. Previous years we have played the year below but now we play the same age which is an even better and more challenging test for our players.

Our under 9s fell to a six four defeat and our under 10s a seven two defeat. Aiden Hill and Lloyd Hayes with the two consolation goals for our under 10s.

Our under 11s secured a fantastic four three victory over Wrexham with Will Nash scoring two and single strikes from Morgan Roberts and Charlie Davies. Man of the match went to Rafael Endemano who showed first class work rate and quality on the bal through out.

Our under 12 and 15 sides also faced Wrexham falling to defeats.

Our new under 19s side got their league campaign off to a great start in the Clwyd East Men’s League with a two nil win over Ewloe with goals from Jack Chambers and Josh Rimmer. A great new side for our youth players playing in a competitive mens league will be a superb challenge for all players.

Saturday was a day that our under 14s would not forget in a long time. The side took part in a four team international tournament with sides from Wales, England, Scotland and the US.

The side got off to a great start with a six nil win over Dumfries from Scotland with a James Worthington hat trick, 2 from Leo Sumner and a single from Jack Robinson. The side then confirmed their place in the final with a four nil win over Skelmersdale who were representing England. Lewis Hopwod hat trick and a single from Jack Robinson again with the goals.

The third and final group game the side faced touring USA side and fell to a three nil defeat with a poor performanve but they faced the same team again in the tournament final.

A fantastic performance saw a victory and tournament win for the side with a one nil win thanks to a Nathan Jones goal! A great achievement by our under 14s side.

Our under 21 side kicked off the weekend with a two two draw away to Mersey Royal. A very young side competed well and grabbed a late equaliser thanks to a James Kilburn free kick. Jordan Fraser had scored to give side lead earlier in the game.

Sunday saw a full day with our under 8s-11s face Deeside Dragons sides a year up in friendly games and our under 12, 14 and 16 sides travel away to Tranmere Rovers.

Our under 8s defeated Deeside Dragons five three, with our under 9s winning six two.

Our under 11s played two fixtures losing three one to Dragons under 13s with Joe Lewis on the score sheet and defeated Dragons under 12s five nil with a hat trick for Tom Norwood and singles for Jay Mountain and Rafael Endemano.

Our under 12s fell to defeat at Tranmere and our under 14s lost five two with goals from Nathan Jones and Sion Evans with Ted Williams winning man of the match.

Our under 16s completed a great week for them with a four two victoyr over Tranmere on Sunday with a goal for Louise Phelan as well as striker partners Jack Foster with a single and Connor Harwood with two who also got man of the match.

The Friday prior our under 16s had also played Airbus and won three nil with a penalty from Thomas Hyndman and singles from Thomas Blackwell and Dominic Elsey-McHugh who was also man of the match.

Well done to all players from all sides on a fantastic week of football for all. Another great week of games and experiences for the side over this pre season campaign.

Academy Players Loaned Out for Senior Experience

Under 21 players Ben Nash and Jamie Roberts have been given six month loan deals at Cymru Alliance clubs Holyhead Hotspurs and Buckley Town.

Both seventeen year old very talented players who were in and around the first team squad all of last season.

As part of their on going development they have been loaned out to play regular first team games in a competitive Cymru Alliance League. Both started for these clubs on Saturday and played full ninety minutes which is superb.

Both are still eligible to play for the sides under 21s on a Sunday and we hope this experience away will aid their progression to getting into our first team in the Welsh Premier League.

All the best to both players during their time away from the club.

24th Academy Player Signs for Professional Club

Under 9 Reagen Nicholas becomes the latest academy graduate following a successful trial at Wrexham Football Club.

Reagen is a very talented footballer with a fantastic attitude who has been superb over the last year with ourselves.

Reagen follows his brother Billy who also progressed from our academy to Wrexham.

A huge well done again to Reagen and we wish him all the best during his time at the club.

No Academy Action August Bank Holiday Weekend

A reminder to all players and parents their will be no games over 29th and 30th August or training on Monday 31st August. As part of our curriculum this season their will be short breaks on bank holidays and half terms.

Already this pre season most teams have played ten or more fixtures with seven academy sessions to date.

Training will be as normal on Monday 24th August.

Following feedback from previous seasons we feel it is important on bank holidays that players and parents get an opportunity to spend quality family time together and enjoy a short break from the football season.

Their will be games for all age groups the following weekend on 5th and 6th September and training will resume on Monday 7th September and our second Thursday sessions of the season at Deeside leisure Centre will begin on Thursday 10th September.

Academy Day at First Team Welsh Premier Opener!

This Saturday will be free entrance for all players and parents at first team game vs Newtown which is mandatory attendance for all academy players.

The game is this Saturday and kicks off at 14:30 at the Deeside Stadium.

All players are asked to arrive in full academy tracksuits and polo tops for the fixture and must arrive no later than 13:45.

Players are to enter the stadium and will be sat together in a section of the stand.

Free entry is also for all parents, spectators and anyone who wishes to attend the game.

The first team is the pinnacle for our academy and what all players should be aiming for.

The under 8 and 9 sides will be walking out with the first team so are asked to be wearing their full red home kit underneath tracksuits for fixture also.

At half time our successful tournament winners at Bolton and our under 14s who won the Westmont Cup last week will be given their awards in from to the crowd at half time.

Their will also be pre season individual awards presented at half time to a number of players also.

The first team face Newtown who made it to the Europa League this season and faced FC Copenhagen narrowly losing two nil so it should be a fantastic game.

With the first team having made a host of big name signings this campaign including the likes of goalkeeper John Danby and striker Les Davies it should be a great opening game for all to attend.
