Total Curriculum Requirements -- 126 hrs

1Recommend students should consider MAT 130 Technical Math I or higher number math course(s). 2Recommend that students enroll in EDU 422 in conjunction with SEC 421. This class with enhance the student teaching experience.

Students must check for and clear needed prerequisites for selected technical courses. PRAXIS TEST: The following scores on the Specialty Exams are required to be eligible for a teaching certificate: Technology Education (0050)– Passing Score of 600

Principles of Learning and Teaching (either 0523 or 0524) – Passing Score of 161 Teacher certification requirements are subject to change. GRADE POINT AVERAGE REQUIREMENTS: Grade point averages are reviewed during three checkpoints: admission to teacher education (see Requirements for Admission to Teacher Education), admission to student teaching (requires a 2.5 average overall; a 2.5 average in content area; a 2.5 average in professional education) and at the time of completion/graduation (2.5 overall).

Students must be admitted to Teacher Education prior to enrollment in upper level teacher education courses. Admission to Teacher Education requires:  Minimum GPA of 2.45  Composite score of 21 or better on ACT or other established minimum score(s) on either SAT, GRE or PPST/CBT  24 or more credit hours including an “A” or “B” in ENG 101 OR ENG 102, a “C” or above in MAT 117, COM 161, and CTE 200  Interview with major academic advisor  Approval of your college Admissions Committee See Teacher Education Services office for details on admission to Student Teaching.

Statement: Certification requires demonstration of computer competency to meet Kentucky New Teacher Standard IX. All teacher education students in P-5, 5-9, 8-12, or P-12 programs must demonstrate computer literacy prior to approval for student teaching and may do so through one of the plans described below: Plan 1: Pass approved computer literacy exam administered jointly by the College of Education and the College of Business and Public Affairs. Plan 2: Successful completion, with grade of C or better, of CSC 199 (03 credit hours) or equivalent.

Note: All students are required to complete a formative portfolio based on activities, and assignments linked to classroom and field experiences. This assessment process threads throughout all teacher preparation courses. During student teaching students will complete an eligibility portfolio that demonstrates competency in all new teacher standards. For additional information and requirements each student should see his/her advisor.

Note: Continuous assessment procedures are used to document and systematically monitor student progress through program in order to determine the degree to which students have internalized and can demonstrate proficiency with the Experienced Teacher Standards. Check Points are designed to facilitate student progress through the program, provide students with feedback on standards at designated stages and serve as a means for making recommendations for improvement or remediation when needed.
