Googling

Google (www.google.com) Google is a great Internet site. You can use it to get answers to questions, find pictures, create web sites, store and share photos, find out what words mean, solve math problems, get maps and driving directions, and a whole lot more.

Find Information (google.com) (Type something in the white box below the Google logo, hit the Enter key, and see what comes up.) Type San Francisco Public Library and hit the Enter key. Type San Francisco Public Library Adult Literacy and hit the Enter key. Type ______and hit the Enter key. Type ______and hit the Enter key. Type a phone number ______and hit the Enter key.

Find Pictures (google.com > Images > Search Images) Type San Francisco Public Library and click on the “Images” link at the top left. Then click on the Search Images box. Type Coit Tower and click on Search Images. Type Golden Gate Bridge and click on Search Images. Type de Young Museum and click on Search Images. Type Jackalope and click on Search Images. Type ______and click on Search Images. Type ______and click on Search Images. Type ______and click on Search Images.

Google’s updated dictionary feature provides spelling, syllabification, phonetic spelling, audio pronunciation, definition, synonyms, and links to other dictionary sites. Pretty snazzy, eh? The audio is particularly nice because, unlike M-W and some other sites, it doesn’t require one to navigate ads and pop up windows. Type in define: ______and hit the Enter key.

Math Help (google.com > type math question with symbols >) Addition (+) Type 33+3 and hit the Enter key. Subtraction (-) Type 33-3 and hit the Enter key. Multiplication (x) Type 33*3 and hit the Enter key. Division (÷) Type 33/3 and hit the Enter key.

Find out how to get there (google.com > Maps >) The maps feature is constantly evolving so try these directions but do poke around and explore.  Type 100 Larkin Street San Francisco and hit the Enter key.  Click on the photo on the left or use the mouse to move the person / yellow figure around onto any of the yellow roads.  Click on Get Directions and put in the address / locations you would like to travel between. Click on Get Directions again.  Click on the Print icon to see what a printout would look like.  Enjoy experimenting with different addresses, locations, and new features.
