Ohio 4-H Cares For Kids

Hello, my name is Kameron Rinehart Chair of the Service Committee on the Ohio 4-H Teen Advisory Council, and President for the 2015-2016 year.

I would thank you all for your support in the 2014 collection drive for “Ohio 4-H Cares for Kids”! It was an amazing collection drive and we were able to collect over 1,200 items from all across the state through 4-H!

I am writing to all of you in your support of another collection drive for “Ohio 4-H Cares for Kids”. It went so well last year that we have decided to do it again! This collection drive will run through November 30Th, 2015. (*Contact Becky if you would like to donate)

The items we are looking for will be donated to pediatric cancer patients and families at Nationwide Children’s Hospital and Ronald McDonald House.

Items that can be collect include: · New Toys (Slightly used ones can we accepted) · New Hats · New Blankets · Books (New and Used) · Laundry Supplies · Toiletries · Canned Foods (Non-Perishable it goes to Ronald McDonald House) · Any other items you think families could use at Ronald McDonald House

Thank you all ahead of time for your support from you and your county 4-H programs! We had an amazing turn out of items last year and we are challenging counties to each collect at least 50 items and our overall goal is to double the amount of items we collect last year!

America’s Farmers Grow Communities!

Farmer enrollment for America’s Farmers Grow Communities is now open! Sponsored by the Monsanto Fund, this program offers farmers the chance to direct $2,500 donations to rural nonprofit organizations of their choice.

To enroll or find a complete list of eligibility requirements, farmers can visit www.GrowCommunities.com or call 877-267-3332. Enrollment runs until November 30 and winners will be announced in January 2016. Since 2010, more than 7,000 organizations across rural America have received Grow Communities donations.

What could your organization do with another $2,500 donation? Contact a farmer you know today and encourage him to enroll in the program. Grow Communities is a part of the America’s Farmers initiative, which has awarded more than $29 million to farming communities in the past five years. Learn more at www.AmericasFarmers.com.

Eid Tags Required At Best Shows

If you're planning on attending a BEST show this year, please note that you'll need to have your EID tags in your calves prior to arriving at your first BEST sanctioned show.

The process is fairly simple, and we're here to help. Below are the steps to acquire the EID tags.

1) You must have a Premise ID number to order the tags. The Premise ID is applied for through your state's department of agriculture. (If you have applied for a Premise ID in the past, they will still have it on file, check with them prior to applying again.) For an application for an ID go to: http://www.agri.ohio.gov/divs/animalid/animalid.aspx

2) Once you receive your Premise ID number, you can purchase your tags through any animal health supplier.

3) The tags can be placed in either ear of the calf. A standard red tagger will work, you just need to slide the black clip off of the back.

We will accept any EID tag that is in the calf. For example, if you purchase a calf that already has a tag, you're all set. You do not need to re-issue a tag that is linked to your farm's Premise ID.

Breeders - need to apply for the Premise ID and tag cattle before they leave your farm.

Traders - if you trade cattle that come in from other farms (and aren't EID tagged), we encourage you to apply for the Premise ID and tag those steers and heifers before they leave your farm.

Buyers - if you get cattle that have been traded and ultimately end up in your possession without an EID tag, you will need to acquire the Premise ID number and then purchase the EID tags to put in the cattle prior to the first show.

EID tags come in yellow or white. Either will be just fine.

After you have your EID tag, this will also serve as your state fair tag and county tag (if they require EID tags at the county level).

WE'RE LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SEASON!
