February 17, 2016
The Braxton County Board of Education met in a regular session on Wednesday, February 17,
2016, at 3 p.m. at the Board office. The following members were present:
Kathy Parker, President Dave Hoover, Vice President Van Carr Jimmy Huffman Elizabeth Stewart
Kathy Parker called the meeting to order at 3:01.m.
Kathy Parker offered a non-denominational prayer.
Dave Hoover moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the administration’s recommendation of 365 day expulsion for Student #1516-8, with the caveat that with good attendance, academics and behavior he could return to school at the beginning of the 2016-17 school year.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
A personnel hearing was held. No action was taken.
Elizabeth Stewart moved to convene into executive session under 6-9A-4 (2)(A) to discuss personnel, legal and student matters. Van Carr seconded the motion.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion Carried.
The board convened into executive session at 3:55 p.m.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Dave Hoover seconded to reconvene into regular session. Vote:
Unanimous. Motion carried. The board reconvened into regular session at 4:30 p.m. with no action taken.
Justin Boggs presented information regarding building community and school partnerships for student success.
Braxton County Middle School LSIC presented a program.
Dave Hoover moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the following Termination of contracts at the end of the 2015-16 school year for professionals:
1. Charity Dean – Long Term Agriculture Education Teacher at BCHS 2. Sarah Critchfield – Pre-School Special Needs/Head Start Home Base Teacher at Burnsville Elementary 3. Jennifer Knowles – 1st Grade Teacher at Little Birch Elementary 4. Mary Ramsey – Pre-School Special Needs/Head Start Home Base Teacher at Davis Elementary 5. Dawn Jo Ward – LD/BD/MI/AU Teacher – Davis Elementary 6. Michael Cool – Physical Education Teacher at Little Birch Elementary
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Elizabeth Stewart moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded to approve the following
Assignments to Transfer List for the 2016-17 school year for professionals:
1. Cara Foster – Title I Teacher at Sutton Elementary 2. Katrina Dennison – Pre-School Special Needs/Head Start Home Base Teacher at Frametown Elementary 3. Dave Hoover moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the following Termination of Contracts at the end of the 2015-16 school year for service employees: 1. Tiffany Abel – Special Education Aide at Burnsville Elementary 2. Wilma Rhodes – Special Education Aide at Flatwoods Elementary
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Dave Hoover seconded the following resignation (retirement) –
Service:
Iris Fowler – Bus Operator effective June 30, 2016
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Elizabeth Stewart moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following resignation –
Professional:
Linda Williams – 6th Grade Teacher/PSSN HB Teacher at Little Birch Elementary effective retroactive February 4, 2016
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the following request to have name added to Substitute Teacher List:
Linda Williams – effective February 18, 2016
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Dave Hoover moved and Jimmy Huffman seconded the request to have the following name removed from the Substitute Teacher List:
Micah Nehlen – effective retroactive January 29, 2016
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried. Dave Hoover moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded the following extracurricular assignments:
1. Doug Smailes – Unpaid Volunteer Assistant Wrestling Coach at BCMS – effective retroactive February 3, 2016 2. Jamie Oates – Head Softball Coach at BCMS effective February 29, 2016

Elizabeth Stewart moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following Extracurricular
Assignment Resignation:
William Shahan – Head Softball Coach at BCMS effective February 18, 2016
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following requests for
Leave of Absence for Service employees:
1. Terri Tyo – Secretary at Frametown Elementary – paid/unpaid medical leave effective Retroactive February 3, 2016 for a period of six weeks or until released by Physician 2. Sherri Stump – Buyer/Van Driver/Maintenance Clerk/Inventory Supervisor – paid medical Leave effective beginning February 19, 2016 for 4-6 weeks or until released by Physician

Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded the following employment/reassignment –

Dave Hoover moved and Van Carr seconded to approve the following determination of effective date:
Alessandra Bonazzo – Social Studies Teacher at BCHS effective retroactive January 11, 2016

Dave Hoover moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve the Consent Agenda
(Approval of January 27, 2016 Meeting Minutes, Payment of Bills, Budget Transfers and
Supplements, Transportation Requests and Reports, and Treasurer’s Report.)

Elizabeth Stewart moved and Van Carr seconded to approve fundraisers for Burnsville
Elementary, Little Birch Elementary, Sutton Elementary, BCMS and BCHS
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Dave Hoover seconded to approve the third reading of Policy
1951 Bring Your Own Device.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Jimmy Huffman moved and Dave Hoover seconded to table the approval of revisions to
2015-16 Calendar due to snow days.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
Van Carr moved and Elizabeth Stewart seconded to approve Policy 3210 Substitute
Professionals in Areas of Need.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried. Dave Hoover moved and Kathy Parker seconded to adjourn.
Vote: Unanimous. Motion carried.
The meeting adjourned at 5:27 p.m.
The next meeting of the Braxton County Board of Education will be held on February 24,
2016 at 98 Carter Braxton Drive, Sutton at 5:00 p.m.
