Course Outline: Welcome! I am excited to have you in TC I and look forward to working and growing with you throughout the year! In order for absolute success, please read the following information carefully! The syllabus is a general guideline and is subject to change depending upon field placement opportunities.

Course Objectives:  First Quarter - Unit One – Know Thyself Unit Two – The Learner Unit Three – Overview of Growth and Development Lifeline Project

 Second Quarter – Unit Four – Preschool/Elementary Education Preschool/Elementary Observations Unit Five – Middle School Education Middle School Observations Unit Six – Adolescence

 Third Quarter – Unit Seven – The Teacher and Teaching Unit Eight – Methods of Teaching Field Experience Week One – Elementary Field Experience Week Two – Middle

 Fourth Quarter – Unit Nine – Special Education Unit Ten – Barriers to Learning Field Experience Week Three – Choice Final Portfolios

Clothing – In order to participate in field experience, you must dress professionally. You will need clothes that correspond with PSHS Teacher Dress Code. We will discuss this in more detail in class.

Grading: Tests/Projects/Designed lesson plans 70% Homework/notebook/quizzes/class participation 30% Final Exam counts as 25% of student’s final grade in class. There is an EOC exam at the end of the semester. Materials Needed for Class:  3-ring binder  Loose-leaf paper  Pens and pencils for entire semester (Please make sure these are brought each day to class.)  The book, “All Grown Up and No Where to Go”. You can purchase a used copy from Amazon on-line.

Class Policies:  Homework/Make-up Work: Homework is to be completed the night it is assigned. In order to receive full credit, homework will be checked at the end of the week and you will have 3 days to make up any missed work. After the third day, you will receive a zero. When ill, homework can be turned in upon return to class. It will be posted in the teacher website. Please check.  Testing: Studying and reviewing for tests is mandatory each day. If you are absent for a test, you can report to learning centers with Ms. Brenda to make them up. Cheating will not be tolerated. If I catch you copying another’s homework or project ideas, it will be confiscated and a zero will incur for that session.  Learning Centers: I am at school each day by 6:00 AM and if you need my assistance you can either come early or stay for after school sessions on Tuesday and Thursday. If you need more help, please make arrangements with me to meet for one-on-one intervention. Don’t hesitate!

Class Rules:  Be respectful to all and respect other’s property.  Sit in assigned seats and begin starters immediately upon entering room.  No food, drink, candy will be allowed as these will be confiscated and thrown in the pail. Complete your lunch before coming back and don’t bring anything with you. Ants and bugs love your food!  Grooming and primping will not be allowed in class. If you are caught with combs/brushes/mirrors/make-up/hats/colognes or perfumes they will be taken and parents will have to come to retrieve them.  Absolutely no cell phones or electronic devices will be permitted in the room. These will be taken and turned into the office for parent retrieval.

Behavior and conduct must be appropriate for everyone to learn. If you disrupt the class, I will discuss the matter with you and if it continues I will call parents and write up an office referral.

Dismissal – Remember the bell does not dismiss you, the teacher does and we will work from bell to bell.

Parents, you can always reach me at the school, through my e-mail or anytime you feel it is necessary with regard to your child’s performance. Progress Reports go home every three weeks, starting the 2nd week of classes. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me whenever you deem it necessary. Parents/Guardians: I am thrilled to have your children in my Honors class. Please help them with doing their homework and studying for tests. I would appreciate it if you would sit with your child and review the syllabus. Have them sign it below and I would appreciate if you would sign it too. With your help, I know we will all succeed and make it a great year! Thanks for all your help!
