Winemaker’s Tasting Notes Scot Covington – Winemaker
Trione 2010 Alexander Valley Red Wine
This estate grown wine is an artful blend of the five classic Bordeaux varieties: 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, 7% Petit Verdot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 6% Malbec. Cabernet Sauvignon forms the base structure and Merlot contributes abundant fruit flavors and supple texture. The Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot add depth, color and spice.. We harvested the grapes from select blocks on three Trione ranches in Alexander Valley, a Sonoma County appellation renowned for these red varieties.
Cases produced: 1418 six-packs
Suggested California retail price: $48
Winemaking: We fermented each variety separately in small, open top vessels. Using a unique irrigation device, we aerated and circulated free-run juice over the cap during the peak of fermentation, gently allowing optimum flavor extraction. The wine aged in French oak barrels (40% new) from coopers Taransaud, Vicard and TW Boswell for eighteen months
Winemaker Notes: Aromas of black currants, blackberry bramble and spice are the wine’s first impressions. On the palate Trione Red Wine is deep and layered, a seamless integration of ripe fruit, French oak and fine-grained tannins. Delicious now, the solid structure and abundant fruit suggest this wine will age well for 5 – 7 years with proper cellaring. . Alcohol: 13.9 percent by volume TA: 7.10 g/l pH: 3.72 November 2014
