In-Person Attendance Make-Ups

In-Person Attendance Make-Ups Revised July, 2009 by Mary Lou Andresen ======The weekly club meeting is a special privilege of Rotary membership. It provides the occasion to visit and to share your personal friendship with fellow members, to welcome and meet visitors and new members, and to enrich your professional and personal knowledge. If you miss your own club’s meeting, you are encouraged to expand your Rotary horizons by attending make-up meetings in any Rotary club in the world, a practice that guarantees that you will receive a warm welcome in communities around the globe. Banner Exchange One of the colorful traditions of many Rotary clubs is the exchange of small banners, flags or pennants. Rotarians traveling to distant locations often take banners to exchange at make-up meetings as a token of friendship. Many clubs use the decorative banners they have received for attractive displays at club meetings and district events. Since 1959, Rotary International has encouraged participating clubs to ensure that their banner is distinctive and expressive of the club’s community and country, often including pictures, slogans or designs portraying the territorial area of the club. 1. Finding a Club Some frequently visited Rotary clubs are listed on the reverse of this sheet, along with the days and times that they meet. If you know you will have to miss our Wednesday noon meeting you can plan ahead to attend another one in the vicinity. If you are traveling to other areas on business or on vacation, you can locate every club in the world through the Rotary International Web site’s Club Locator, which is found at: http://www.rotary.org/support/clubs/index.html Type in the club name or city and click on submit. You will then have a choice of clubs from which to choose, along with the days and times that they meet. 2. Before You Go You do not need to notify anyone in advance that you will be attending a make-up meeting. If you intend to exchange a Superior Rotary banner for one at the club you’re visiting, please contact our Club secretary in advance to arrange to get one (or more) of our banners. Reach her at [email protected] 3. Once You’re There Introduce yourself to the greeters and the president of the Club you are attending. Local clubs will ask you to sign in as a Visiting Rotarian and your name will be e-mailed by their Club secretary to Superior Rotary’s Club secretary. Other Rotary Clubs will ask you to fill in a Make-Up Slip for Visiting Rotarians. Just fill out this slip and bring it back to us at the next Superior Rotary meeting. If you want to exchange a banner, tell the greeter and Club president at the club you’re attending that you would like to exchange a banner. It is up to the president as to how he or she handles the presentation of their Club banner to you. 4. When You Return Send an e-mail to [email protected] to report that you attended another club for make-up credit. If you have a Make-Up Slip you may turn it in to Mark Connolly at the next Superior Rotary meeting. If you are bringing back a banner from another club you attended, notify the president before the meeting so that you can present your Banner Exchange during the meeting.
