All applicants for admission to the DMA in Voice (Performance or Pedagogy) will complete this questionnaire and submit it to the Office of Graduate Admissions as part of the application materials. The Head of the Vocal Division will choose the applicant’s entrance recital program from the repertoire listed herein by the applicant and will notify the applicant of their selections not less than 30 days prior to the recital. The program will be selected from repertoire marked M or PP (see directions given below). The applicant may request that certain pieces not be included, with explanation to the Head of the Vocal Division.
Programs of studies will also be guided by the results of this questionnaire, which becomes part of the student’s permanent record.
INSTRUCTIONS
The purpose of the following is to discover the applicant’s scope and depth of experience in the major literature for voice.
List your repertoire experience as requested. Use symbols as follows:
R Music Read S Music worked out in some depth M Music worked out and memorized PP Publicly performed
Place symbols in left column. If work was performed in translation, please indicate this; a work performed in a key other than the original should also be marked accordingly. 2 SYMBOL Category 1- Operatic Roles List representative operatic roles in your repertoire. Give full title of opera, composer, and specific role. Individual arias should be listed under this category. 3
SYMBOL Category 2 - Voice and Orchestra List compositions for voice and orchestra or voice and chorus in your repertoire. Oratorio should be included in this category. All works in which the piano is a reduction of an orchestral score should be included. If not performed with orchestra, please mark “piano” after the entry. 4
SYMBOL Category 3 - Voice with Instruments List works for solo voice and solo instrument(s) other than piano in your repertoire. Works for voice, piano, and solo instrument should be included in this category. 5
SYMBOL Category 4 - Solo Voice and Piano Only list repertoire which you can mark M or PP. The listing should be chronological according to historical period. Full title, composer, and either opus or composition number (e.g., D. or K.) should be included. Works in which the piano is a reduction of an orchestral or other score should not be included in this category. 6
SYMBOL CATEGORY 5 - Vocal Chamber Music List compositions for two or more solo voices, with or without instrumental accompaniment (non-orchestral accompaniment). Ex: Schumann’s Spanisches Liederspiel, duets by Brahms, Mendelssohn, Fauré, Saint-Saens, etc.
A description of your voice teaching experience, as applicable. Include dates and places of employment, name and address of administrative superior, teaching load and levels taught (elementary, secondary, college major or supplementary).
