Harvest 1 Susan Anderson

JOURNAL RESEARCH ASSIGNMENT

1. What is the name of your journal?

HARVEST: International Journal for Jungian Studies

2. Give a one sentence summary of what your journal is about or what its mission is. You can often find this right on the main website, or on a section called “About Us.”

Harvest endeavors to ‘gather the best Jungian writing from around the world’ to keep its readers abreast of cutting edge developments in analytic psychology on all fronts—from the symbolic to the clinical, and cultural as well as academic perspectives.

3. How long has the journal been published?

Harvest was founded in 1954, the oldest peer-reviewed Jungian journal in the U.K, and was adopted in 2003 as the official journal of International Association for Jungian Studies.

4. What is the city, the state, and the country of publication?

London, England

5. What is the intended audience for the journal? If not stated directly, you may have to infer it.

Analysts, psychologists, therapists, students and anyone interested in Jungian studies.

6. Is the journal sponsored or affiliated with any organization or publication?

Harvest is owned by the C.G.Jung Analytical Psychology Club in London and affiliated with the International Association for Jungian Studies.

7. About how many full‐length articles do there appear to be in each journal? 6-8

8. What categories of articles appear in the journal besides full‐length articles? (book reviews, poetry, fiction, etc.)

Harvest has a Historical section and a Book Review section in addition to the articles.

9. What is the cost of each journal? Back issues of Harvest £10, current issues £20

10. Of a subscription? Harvest subscription is £28

11. Do they have online subscriptions or paid access to individual articles?

No online subscriptions and no access to individual articles online.

12. Do they have free online content? No.

13. What is the frequency of publication? Harvest is published semi-annually.

14. Is the journal peer reviewed or refereed? If not, who appears to make editorial decisions? Harvest 2 Susan Anderson

Each submitted article is anonymously reviewed by at least two peer reviewers.

15. What are the submission guidelines for the journal?

I could not obtain that information from the website. I wrote to the editor who informed me that the journal was not being published currently “due to the Jung Club of London,” but The International Association for Jungian Studies would soon be reviving the publication.

16. Pulling up a recent table of contents, list three or four article titles.

C.G. Jung’s Visionary Mysticism by Leon Schlamm The Wounded Researcher: Levels of Transference in the Research Process by Robert D. Romanyshyn Examining the Unconscious with the Dream Grid by Daniel Anderson The Skin of the Psyche: A Psychology of Dermatological Disorders by John Kenneth Newman

17. Write up a summary for your classmates about the viability of publishing in this journal or publication. What sorts of writing have you all done at Pacifica that might be a fit for this journal? How “academic” is the writing? How much is it geared toward case material or the practice of psychotherapy? Can you tell the sorts of people they publish (academics, clinicians, “average joes,” etc.)?

It seems quite possible to get a well-written submission accepted for publication. Harvest prides itself on gathering the “best Jungian writing” from around the world and invites submissions from diverse groups. The stated main selection criteria are “originality, scholarship, and clarity.” Interdisciplinary approaches and writing on current debates are particularly welcome. In the last issue, I found Robert Romanyshyn’s “The Wounded Researcher.” Articles appear to be less clinical and more visionary and nonacademic, leading me to believe that works from Pacifica students could be well received. The authors I looked up were typically analysts, university professors, or graduate students.
