Awaz – The Voice of the Community: Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation Initiative Project

Part Time Annual Salary: £15000. Pro rata (10 months, 1st June 2016 – 31st March 2017)

Project aims: This innovative initiative will expand and extend to improve awareness on both recycling and home energy efficiency in an approach that is more sensitive both to the socio-cultural elements to the South Asian Community in Glasgow to preserving their environment and protect it from pollution

Reporting to: Project Manager of Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation Initiative and Awaz Voice Board of Trustees

Responsible for: Delivery of Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation Initiative Project Outcomes, fostering good relationships with the South Asian Communities in Glasgow, developing new partnerships, and working in partnership with volunteers.

Hours of Work: Part-time, 25 hours per week

Terms & Condition: Fixed Term contract from 1 June 2016 to 31st March 2017

Contract Value : £15000 pro-rata Plus 3% pension

Scope of the job:

 To reduce co2 emissions by 847.06 tonnes within 100 households within the South Asian Community in Glasgow by reducing the number of cloths and cds going into landfill and improving on household energy use

 To increase the number of members within the South Asian Community in Glasgow who will be willing to reduce, recycle and reuse their items.

 To increase the South Asian communities in Glasgow knowledge on climate change and raise awareness on home energy efficiency so as to cut carbon emission by 355.34 tonnes co2e within 200 South Asian households

 To address gender inequalities and lack of engagement and participation of South Asian Youth and South Asian Women on climate change through the ``Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation South Asian Youth Leadership Programme`` and `` Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation South Asian Women Leadership Programme`` by working with 50 youths and 75 South Asian Women  250 people within the South Asian Community in Glasgow will have access to good quality, easily accessible recycling and home energy efficiency support information and advice

Duties and Key responsibilities:

 To develop and deliver Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation South Asian Youth Leadership Programe on Climate Change; this leadership programme will use innovative and creative approach to engage and increase the participation of South Asian Youths via photography, media, music, arts, films and short documentaries etc. This then will encourage youth-led recycling within the South Asian Community  To develop and deliver Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation Outreach and Engagement Programme; focus on outreach awareness raising on recycling and home energy efficiency, to encourage low carbon life style within the community  To develop and deliver Home Support Programme; provide one to one support on households on how to cut down on their energy consumption, how to recycle and make appropriate referrals as needed  To coordinate, develop and deliver Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation Information and Resource Facility; a culturally and socially accessible equip resource facility where they can access information on climate change, recycling, waste management and fuel poverty. The resource facility will also act as meeting place to meet others, learn and while it help address social isolation  To work with Project coordinator to develop and implement Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation digital website and Mobile Apps; encourage household swap to take place online within people travelling while cut down on their carbon footprint and reduce waste into landfill. People who swap online will earn carbon credit. This space will also have constant update on how people should engage and participate.  Inspiring Low Carbon Transformation South Asian Women Leadership Programme; will inspire more women from South Asian Community to take a more proactive role on climate change discuss, on recycling house hold waste and to have their voice hear within the community on this issue.  Plan and deliver monthly climate change awareness programmes on Radio AWAZ; to plan and present monthly programmes on issues regarding climate change, also to invite speakers from other CCF projects and other relevant organisations.  To organise monthly swap shop and sewing classes ; to hold monthly swap shop in local community hall to allow communities to exchange clothes and cds, also in partnership with college to organise sewing classes to design and repair clothes.  To organise monthly climate challenge programme; to organise monthly programme in local community hall to raise awareness on climate change and its impacts and energy awareness. To invite relevant organisations to give inputs on the topics.  To organise fashion show ; to showcase the clothes which have been re-designed at the sewing classes, Work in partnership with colleges for models, hair and makeup artists.

Person Specification

Your salary will be £15000.00 per rota per annum for a 25 hour working week. You will be entitled to 28 days including all public holidays per year. Awaz – The Voice of the Community encourages flexible working, and in return expects an ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours. Your place of work will be Awaz – The Voice of the Community Office, in Pollokshields.

The contract will run until March 31st 2017 and may be extended if further funding is secured.
