Overview: The 2016 World Young Diplomats Conference is an intensive study trip which aims to engage participants to think about how the world they live in can be better planned, designed and managed to enhance quality of life through leadership, education, human rights and diplomacy. By learning about the world’s better development practices and exploring various alternatives to ensure a safe and better nation, participants will reflect on the relationship between individuals’ capacity and how they can ensure a just, secure and peaceful world.
Learning values: As the United Nations sets the 2030 Development Goals, a common challenge that countries across the globe grapple with is about how to ensure the just, secure and peaceful world.. About a quarter of the world’s population lives in disadvantaged cities where conflict and security are key issues and the UN projects this percentage to increase to 70% in 2030. This presents a challenge to governments and states as they need to not only plan for world progress through the achievement of the new UN Goals but also design a robust program on leadership, education, human rights and diplomacy will meet and answer the social needs of people, offer them a good quality of life and would be robust enough to grow sustainably with a smaller ecological footprint.
Purposes: By participating in this program, they will: (1) acquire greater awareness of the importance of leadership, education, human rights, peace and diplomacy in ensuring a just, secure and peaceful world; (2) learn more about Spain and Europe’s approaches to world development challenges; (3) explore how governments and international organizations built a designed to balance the needs and aspirations of a diverse population and meet the challenges of an ageing population; (4) promote an environmentally sustainable lifestyle; and (5) through a learner-centered approach, delegates will also be challenged to hone critical thinking and communication skills and acquire knowledge and articulate ideas that can be applicable in local context.
