Select the Discussions link. This tutorial will show you how to use the Discussions tool. The Discussions tool allows you to ask general questions about course content or course deadlines or to participate in class discussions.

Click the Topic's link. To ask a general question about course content or course deadlines or to participate in a class discussions, select the appropriate Discussions area. Slide 3 -
The topic's discussion window appears. The prompt should appear at the top of the page.

You can change the view of your discussions by clicking on the View dropdown menu.
Threaded View: Shows the topic threads, which means an original post and its replies are grouped together, no matter when they are posted.
Unthreaded View: Shows discussion postings in the order that they are posted. This means that the post and their replies are not grouped together.
It is encouraged that you use the threaded view only.
Click the Apply button.

To post a response to the prompt, select the Compose link.

Post a response to the prompt. Make sure you include a subject that relates to your main idea of your response.

Spell check your response before posting it to the discussion board.

Once the spell check is complete, click the OK button.

Click the Post button to post your response.

You will see your new post at the top. Select the link.

To respond to someone's message, click on its title.

Click the Reply button.

Reply to the posting. Make sure you spell check your response.

Viewing Multiple Responses to A Message
To view multiple responses to a specific message, click on the plus (+) to expand the section.

Tips for Participating in Discussions
* Treat others with respect and courtesy, as you would want to be treated. * Observe the basic rules of Netiquette (Internet etiquette). * Respect difference of opinions. Do not attack any of your peers for their ideas and opinions. Review and spell check your response before posting it to the discussion board.
