10/16 Essay return. Carefully read my feedback and start your revision.

10/24 Revised Draft due. You MUST turn in both your original essay with my comments on it and your revised essay. Failure to turn in both will lead to 50% as a grade. Electronic copy due on turnitin.com by 8:05 AM. 40 points

*Your paper will be considered late and marked down ten points if you do not have the hard copy in class on the due date or if you fail to use turnitin.com. If you fail to give me the hard copy or use turnitin.com at all, you will be given a 20/40.

The assignment: Choose one of the following essay prompts to answer. Your response should be three pages in length (double spaced, of course). Ten writing guidelines apply (you can find this document on HW Central in the Resources section.)

1. Fear can cause people to do things that they may not normally do. Discuss how fear is affecting the characters in The Crucible. 2. Preserving one’s reputation is a prevalent theme in The Crucible. Examine three characters in detail who are concerned with their reputations. How does this concern affect how they act? How are their situations similar or different? Is a good name more important than the truth? 3. Answer your own question. Your question must be approved by me.

*Make sure you have an ARGUMENT and are proving it in your essay, rather than simply retelling the story.
