LaunchCyte LLC – New York City, Boston and Pittsburgh 7/02 – 5/05 Managing Director and Co-Founder  Lead business development for this life sciences private equity firm that acquires and develops biomedical intellectual property and then creates new “spin out” companies. Four fully operational companies established.  Responsibilities include management of portfolio companies, business development, technology scouting, investment evaluation, deal negotiation, and strategic fundraising.

Business and Fund Development:  Established significant revenue source by developing and signing a consulting agreement with Boston Scientific to find “disruptive technologies” at targeted universities.  Responsible for developing and securing the institutional investments of the University of Pittsburgh and the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) as well as a series of high-net-worth individuals.  Participated in the sale of equity and convertible debt by LaunchCyte and its portfolio companies, Reaction Biology Corp., Crystalplex Corp., and Immunetrics Inc., to institutions and qualified individuals.  Handled recruitment and executive compensation for portfolio company CEO’s.  Additional responsibilities include working to further and create value from a network of American and European corporations, professional firms, research institutions (private, government, and universities), seed investors and venture capitalists. Primary responsibility is to maintain quality information stream, deal flow, partnerships and sources of qualified financing for portfolio companies.

Dentsu Advertising– New York City 3/00 – 7/02 Business Development and Account Management Supervisor  Co-wrote the strategy, pitched and won Edison Electric Institute (EEI), the association of publicly traded electric companies, and GOLFONLINE.com, a golf web site owned by Tribune Media, accounts.  EEI responsibilities included overseeing the strategic direction and implementation of both national print and public service radio campaigns during California’s summer 2001 energy crisis. Handled the consumer launch of GOLFONLINE’s branding efforts into web, newspaper, magazine, radio and TV.  Additional account responsibilities included Government of India Tourism and Alitalia Airlines. Led the review of India’s post “9/11” North America brand positioning and tourism strategy and negotiated and executed Alitalia’s sponsorship of New York City’s “General Motors’ Fashion Week.”

McCann-Erickson – New York City 6/97-10/99 Business Development and Account Executive  Member of “pitch team” that successfully won a $100mm Lowe’s Home Improvement account.  Co-developed the strategy and managed the production of twelve (12) Gateway TV commercials and managed Gateway’s creative development efforts for seven different magazine titles/$12mm media plan.  Handled the global branding integration of Salomon Brothers and Smith Barney merger advertising.  Completed highly selective McCann-Erickson management training program.

(page 1 of 2) The Birmingham Group – Pittsburgh 6/95-6/96 Business Development Consultant  Developed a packaged goods marketing initiative for Heinz brands sold in military grocery stores.  Handled sponsorship negotiations on behalf of MCI with the San Diego Padres.  Participated in new business pitches and completed agency requests for proposals and information.

Major League Baseball Alumni Marketing – Pittsburgh and New York City 7/91-6/94 Business Development and Director of Promotions  Developed the strategy, pitched and won the Campbell’s Soup “MLB Alumni Legends” in-store event marketing account. Supervised the global marketing initiative in Japan, Germany and the United States. Participating brands included Pepperidge Farm, V8 and Red and White Soup.  Directed MCI’s “Ambassadors of Baseball” event marketing world tour. Full program oversight in Japan, France, Guam and the United States markets.  Supervised Nabisco’s “All-Star Autographs” national on-pack consumer redemption promotion, the largest program of its kind that used genuinely signed signatures of former MLB players. Participating brands include Oreo, Ritz, Chips Ahoy and Ritz bits.

EDUCATION Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) – Sloan School of Business; Boston, MA – 2006 (expected) Masters in Business Administration (M.B.A.)  Selected as one of one-hundred global academic fellows to earn an accelerated twelve months degree. Syracuse University – S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications; Syracuse, NY - 1997 Masters of Science (M.S.) in Journalism  A twelve-month program focusing on the business, production and journalistic aspects of the television industry. Denison University; Granville, OH - 1991 Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Comparative Religions  Focused extensively on research, writing and critical analysis of ethical and philosophical issues.

PERSONAL National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS) – Lander, WY and Palmer, AK  Spent 95 days living in the Rocky Mountains as part of an accredited wildness semester in college.  Part of six-week expedition that summitted Mt. McKinley at 20,120 feet, North America’s tallest mountain. Baltimore Orioles Baseball Club – Baltimore, MD  Drafted in 1987 in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft as a catcher.
