FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE March 21, 2016 <> and Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors Celebrate National Surveyors Week

HARRISBURG, Pa. – <> and Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors (PSLS) are proud to announce their continued involvement in National Surveyors Week, March 20 – 26, 2016, through a variety of community outreach and educational programs planned this week and beyond. To support this effort, Gov. Tom Wolf has honored Pennsylvania surveyors through a proclamation recognizing surveyors’ contributions to local communities across the commonwealth.

The goal of our programs is to promote the surveying profession, educate the public, and encourage young people to learn more about this exciting career that blends Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics with History, Land Ownership, Innovation, Protection of the Public, and the Outdoors.

Surveyors have played a vital role in the development of towns, cities, and the nation. They represent the client as a source of information, in which they obtain details utilized from the commencement to the completion of projects that range from creating boundaries for residential to large-scale commercial construction, identifying environmental concerns, and managing floodplain control.

PSLS has contacted its members throughout the Commonwealth to participate in several types of outreach events this year including the Fitbit Fun Day and the Cell Phone Challenge. Students from the Surveying Programs at Penn State Wilkes-Barre and Pennsylvania College of Technology will also participate, in conjunction with local PSLS members, and be able to use the experience in their own college projects. The students’ involvement in PSLS not only gives them practical experience and mentorship, but also emphasizes the importance of participating in professional organizations.

"PSLS is excited to be working statewide to make connections with the public to educate about our Profession and also to promote the profession as a career to younger generations. To help celebrate National Surveyors Week, the Fitbit Fun Days and Cell Phone Challenges will serve to make connections to people to better understand what it is that surveyors do and how we’re here to serve the public. We look forward to continuing these projects for many years to ensure that all generations benefit from the profession that many of us see as our calling," stated Adam Crews, PLS, Past-President, PSLS Board of Directors.
