TIPS ON & STEPS FOR FOCUSING A MICROSCOPE

1. Plug in the microscope. 2. Note the location of the specimen on the microscope slide and place it on the stage so that the light from the microscope is passing directly through your specimen. 3. Turn to the low power objective (the shortest one) making sure it clicks into place. 4. Twist the coarse adjustment knob (large diameter knob on the side) so that the objective is as far away from the specimen as possible. 5. Look through the eye-piece and slowly twist the coarse adjustment so that the objective move closer to the slide where the specimen in located. When you get near the slide the specimen should come into focus. 6. Adjust the lighting using the diaphragm knob (associated with the light on the gray microscopes) or the rotating thing (under the stage on the cream microscopes), so that the image is a clear as possible. 7. Turn to the medium power objective (the medium length one) making sure it clicks into place. 8. Look through the eye-piece and refocus the image using the fine tune adjustment knob (small diameter knob on the side). 9. Readjust the lighting if necessary. 10.Turn to the high power objective (the medium length one) making sure it clicks into place. 11.Look through the eye-piece and refocus the image using the fine tune adjustment knob (small diameter knob on the side). 12.Readjust the lighting if necessary. 13.If you still have problems ask for help from Mr. Kessler or get another microscope and try again.
