 Completing the 12 mile Tough Mudder  Keep focus on the goal  The lead in the play  Work hard  Determination  Commitment Quote Prompt: "Hard Work and perseverance bring reward." Quotes can have a big motivational impact on one’s life. The quote, “hard work and perseverance bring reward” is one of these quotes. To me, this means that when you work hard and have determination, you will accomplish your goal. This quote reminds me of how Thomas Edison worked hard at several attempts to make the light bulb. He didn’t get it right the first try, but eventually he was able to meet his goal of making the first light bulb. To be successful in whatever I want to achieve in life, I know I must give 100% effort and never give up. I have had two experiences in my life, which come to mind when I think of this quote. These experiences were when I completed a 12 mile Tough Mudder and when I got the lead in my school play. First, one of my most memorable memories showing my hard work helping me accomplish my goal is when I finished a 12 mile Tough Mudder. In order to even compete in the race, I trained for weeks prior running on the road and in parks. I set aside 45 minutes each day for the first week in order to get my momentum in training, as I was quite out of shape. I worked up my training the following two weeks by increasing my daily training to over an hour. I hadn’t worked harder in my life in a sporting event than when I trained for this running race. I noticed over the three weeks of training that I was slowly improving my distance and speed running. I felt great the day of the race because I had put so much hard work and determination into my training. I ended up finishing strong on the 12 mile Tough Mudder, and I couldn’t have been happier. Secondly, my experience getting a lead in my school play when I was in 8th grade reminds me of all the hard work I put into getting that role and making the performance spectacular. I was able to accomplish my goal of obtaining a lead role in the play by practicing for my audition for hours the week before auditioning. Once I obtained the lead role, I memorized lines, practiced my movements on stage, and performed my heart out for the performances. I ended up doing great at the final performance and even had my class mates and family come up to me afterwards and say how wonderful I did in the play. I felt proud of getting a lead role and doing well on performance night because of all the hard work I put into the practices. Overall, I have had several experiences in my life where hard work and determination have helped me obtain my goals. I never would have been able to complete the 12 mile Tough Mudder if I hadn’t worked so hard at training for the race for several weeks before the event. I also would not have gotten a lead role in my school play and done so well on the final performances without working hard and having so much determination. Obtaining my goals has taught me the valuable lesson that I can accomplish anything I set my mind to. I am much more willing to push myself hard in order to reach my goals in the future. My commitment to accomplishing my goals has actually surprised me at times, but all the hard work and determination surely bring reward!
