ROTARY CLUB PRESENTS AWARD FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE TO YOUTH

Virginia Beach, July, 2010. Paul B. Peter, a member of the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads, was presented the prestigious Cliff Dochterman Community Service Award on Friday, June 25th in a ceremony conducted at the club’s annual installation banquet.

The Dochterman Award is the International Fellowship of Scouting Rotarians’ highest award for service to youth through the Boy Scouts of America. The presentation is made by a Rotary club to recognize a member who performs outstanding service to youth as a volunteer Scouting leader and for strengthening the relationship between Rotary and Scouting.

The award was presented by Channing M. Zucker, a veteran Scouter and fellow member of the Rotary Club of Hampton Roads. He cited Mr. Peter for his 25 years of distinguished volunteer leadership in the delivery of the Scouting program and 25 years of meritorious service as a Rotarian. The Dochterman Award consists of an award medallion suspended on a neck drape accompanied by a framed certificate. It is named in honor of former president of Rotary International and dedicated Scouter Cliff Dochterman of Moraga, California.

Mr. Peter served as a Den Leader and Cubmaster in Virginia Beach Cub Packs 499 and 498 respectively. In Boy Scouting he was an Assistant Scoutmaster in Virginia Beach Troop 408. In the Kempsville District he served as the Advancement Committee Chair and is currently the District’s Scout Roundtable Commissioner.

In Rotary, Mr. Peter served as secretary and president of the Princess Anne club. During various years he chaired the vocational service, community service and club service committees. He was named the club’s Rotarian of the Year in 1998. As a member of the Hampton Roads club, he manages the annual Paint Your Heart Out home repair project, participates in a tutoring program at Seatack Elementary School and chairs the club’s administration committee.
