BAND PARENT MEETING

CALLED TO ORDER: 7:00 pm

OPENING REMARKS (David Steinberger): Thank you to all of the volunteers at last Friday’s football game. The pep band had a great time in spite of the rain and cold. Also thanks to the volunteers who helped make the Brandon competition a success, and congratulations to Ms. Hsu and the band on their first place finish!
I. NEEDS OF THE DIRECTOR New percussion line New uniforms: Ms. Hsu is putting together a proposal to send to the school board. Approximate cost (no bells or whistles) is $80k. II. TREASURER’S REPORT: Most student accounts are updated, but they are not posted yet. They’ll be posted as soon as the 9th grade and other incoming students are added. The list should be up-to-date by next meeting.
III. FUNDRAISING: Tag days: Signups are in the band room. If a student cannot participate or chooses not to, they can opt out for the standard $25 opt-out fee. Cheesecakes – order forms due back on Friday Bowling: Committee is working on planning the event. Will be on Friday, Nov. 9. Info packets will be handed out this week. This is currently an adult-only event. If we don’t sell 100 tickets by end of October we will open it up to students. If we open it up to students, it will be non-alcoholic event. There will potentially be a 2nd event later this year that will involve the kids. Mixed Bags: (spring fundraiser) We will be selling tote bags, lunch bags, etc. Samples shown at the parent meeting. IV. PARENT HELP Please continue to check the Dakota Boosters website for signups for concessions (http://dhsboosters.com/upcomming_events.html) . They will be adding home basketball games, so there will still be a lot more opportunities to bring money into band program. Thanks to those who volunteered to help set up and clean up for dinner on Homecoming day, and also those who donated food or pop. We will also need help at last home game on Oct. 19 (Senior night, 8th grade night). We will be providing dinner again. Contact Tammy Andersen ([email protected]) or Susan Singer ([email protected]) if you can help. V. MARCHING BAND MSBOA – Tuesday, Oct. 9. Tickets can be purchased at the gate: $3 adults, $2 seniors/students. First band performs at 6:30. We perform at 7:45. Should be out by 9:30. Pep band is being organized for the CVHS game on Friday. Signups in the band room. Students will be bussed to game and back. Students should meet at Dakota at 5:30. Bring money for concession. Will stay for the whole game if weather is ok, leave a bit early if it’s not. Students should wear Dakota gear if they have it – dress warm! Oct. 19 is last home game against Roseville. 8th graders will rehearse with band after school, then all students will have dinner at Dakota. 8th graders will perform in the stands til halftime, perform at halftime, then will be released. Senior speeches are also that night after the game, and will run til 11 or 11:30. Today (Oct. 8) is due date for 4th payment.
VI. CONCERT BANDS Collage concert. Ticket order forms went home with students today. Ticket orders are due by Oct. 19, but get them in early if possible. VII. WINTER DRUM LINE/WINTER GUARD Winter Drumline (all clinics/tryouts in band room) o 8th Grade Clinic Night: Mon, Oct. 29, 6:00-8:00pm o Battery Clinic: Sunday, Nov. 4, 1:00-4:00pm o Front Ensemble Clinic: Sunday, Nov. 11, 1:00-3:00pm o Tryouts: Sunday, Nov. 18, 3:00-7:00pm Winter guard (all clinics/tryouts in 9th Grade Center) o Clinic: Monday, Oct. 29, 6:00-9:00pm o Clinic/Tryouts: Thursday, Nov. 1, 6:00-9:00pm
IX. UPCOMING EVENTS Oct. 9/10: MSBOA Marching Band Festival. Performance time 7:45. Oct. 12-14: Tag Days Oct. 16 and 23: Concert Band rehearsal 2:30-3:30 Oct. 19: Senior Night/8th Grade Night at the game. Seniors will be introduced on the field before the game with their parents. Oct. 25: Collage Concert (see ticket info above in Concert Bands section) Oct. 27/28: All State Auditions (this affects only a few students, mainly seniors in Wind Ensemble) Nov. 5: 5th MB payment due Nov. 13: Cheesecake pickup Nov. 22: Thanksgiving Day Parade Nov. 29: Marching Band Banquet Next meeting: Nov. 12 after booster meeting (approx. 8pm)
