JOB DESCRIPTION Literacy and Living Skills Services Coordinator

General Purpose The Literacy and Living Skills Services Coordinator oversees and provides services to Meta House clients for literacy and vocational skills as necessary.

Essential Functions of the Job  Responsible for all Meta House client literacy activities including TABE assessments and GED preparation. Strong math and science skills are a plus.  Maintain and oversee operation of the Literacy Resource Center  Facilitate/develop a living skills curriculum for all Meta House programs  Assess level of client employability  Refer employment-ready clients to appropriate community resources for assistance  Support client employment retention  Assist clients receiving outpatient services with necessary vocational/educational needs as described in outpatient curriculum

Marginal Functions of the Job  Develop working relationship with prospective employers and current employers, including Step Industries  Develop relationships with community resources and volunteers to assist with Meta House training needs  Report Outpatient and Residential client treatment attendance  Other duties as may be periodically or permanently assigned

Qualifications and Requirements  Bachelor’s degree in human services field or education  Experience with literacy and/or adult education preferred  Experience working with clients in AODA treatment or similar populations is helpful

Other Skills Required  Effective written and verbal communication skills  Ability to work and communicate within a team-oriented workplace  Knowledge of community resources  Ability to work effectively with volunteers  Able to work in a multi-cultural setting  Flexibility and problem solving skills  Computer skills including proficiency in Word, Excel, and other applications

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements  Able to communicate effectively with clients  Able to document in client records and other media  Able to negotiate stairs  Able to travel between work sites
